Did Adam Lambert's Sexuality Cost Him American Idol Title? (Here it comes)
US Magazine ^ | May 21, 2009

Posted on 05/22/2009 6:16:06 AM PDT by Pinkbell

That's the argument raging online.

"It's difficult not to wonder if Lambert's sexuality played a role in Allen's victory," the Chicago Tribune's TV critic writes. "Though he never said whether he was gay, pictures of Lambert kissing other men appeared on the Internet during Season 8.

"If Lambert's popularity on Idol was any indication of how tolerant and accepting America has become, his loss may indicate there's still further to go," continues the Tribune writer.

Adds pro poker player (and recent Celebrity Apprentice runner-up) Annie Duke: "I seriously think Adam lost just because he is gay. Bummed. Bummed. Bummed."

Blog Examiner.com labels Lambert as "polarizing," stating: "Adam was too gay for America."

Lambert once again dodged questions on how his sexuality may have played into the results.

When asked his thoughts about blogs saying, 'If he wins [it's] because he's gay, or if he loses [it's] because he's gay,' Lambert told reporters jokingly: "Is that what they're gonna say? Those blogs have a lot of opinions, don't they? I think that Kris won because he's a great artist and I was happy to be a runner-up to that.

"If there's anything that can come from this experience, and I hope that all the fans out there can pick up on, is that even if you're really different, there's a way to get along with each other," Lambert continued. "And it's not about 'Oh, you beat me because of this,' or 'You, you're different.' It's about finding the common stuff that makes it work."

Ryan Seacrest pointed out on May 13's episode that, of the 88 million votes cast that week, only 1 million separated Allen and Lambert. In an Usmagazine.com poll of 84,000 readers Tuesday, the contestants were virtually tied.

I find this particularly galling when it's done to the national anthem.

I share your feelings about that. It incenses me to no end hear tone-deaf idiots gargling our National Anthem as though it were a throat-clearing exercise between drags on a bong. Or, some modern "artiste" engaging in up-and-down masturbatory vocalizations ending in a pitch audible only to certain species of guide dogs.

And you're also right that I never hear anyone mangle "O! Canada" in such routine fashion, even if it is a somewhat easier song to manage vocally than "The Star Spangled Banner".

If it was meant for man to use two hands we would have been born with longer handles.

Haven’t been watching AI ...you mean THAT was ‘Ring of Fire’? Holy sh*t! Sounded like a cat in heat.

Geez. This is all so absurd.

Why don't we just get this over with and change the rules so that all effeminate men and manly women automatically win?

I am so sick to death of "he/she lost because they're gay." Uhh, maybe Glambert lost because he SUCKS? (pun intended)

Don’t put much value in my opinion on singing talent. I was raised with 7 sisters and have a very low tolerance for screamers.

” (Putting on John Lee Hooker)”

Best advice I’ve heard. I’ve never watched this show, but a local talk show host played a short clip of the gay guy screaming. I thought he sounded like a 14 year old girl. I’m a retired musician, and when I wanna hear music, I grab my bottlenecker, or my pedal steel and play.

by the commentary of the illiterati, it is now fair to say “there IS something wrong with being that”.

(for those in rio linda, when confronted about their sexual preference an actor in hollywood with either play coy or deny and say “not that there is anything wrong with that”)

What is with all these frickin’ American idol postings? This isn’t DU, why don’t you guys take this pap and post it on a forum where someone cares? What a crock of crap. Who gives a sh** who won or why? It is all BS, all feel good, liberal horse manure designed to keep people in bread and circus so the government can screw over us. Get your minds on something important, like taking back congress in the 2010 elections, expend a little energy on getting back the country and quit posting this crap on FR! JMO, but I have the right to express it, just as you have the right to post this BS.

Are you calling Adam a "one trick pony"? (Can I say "pony" here in this context?)

Seriously, it's amazing what great mind readers that liberals happen to be(!)

Yes they have. I think either way this turned out, AI has really stepped in it. Either way, they are losing audience, because you have people now saying because “Adam was robbed”, they are through with Idol. You would have had another fairly large group saying the same thing if he had won.

Anytime you politicize something that shouldn’t be, you’ve ruined it. And it’s been ruined now for sure.

I loved about half of Adams stuff, but one thing I will say for sure, is at least during the live shows, Adam was always one of the most humble, kind contestants American Idol has ever had.

I was a Danny Gokey fan from the start, and to tell the truth I always had trouble remembering who Kris Allen was week to week. After Danny got kicked off, I really did not care which of the final two won. But whichever of the two did won, I would have been happy with. Some weeks Adam blew me away with his talent, other weeks I was unimpressed with his screaming, and on the week he sang Ring of Fire, I hated him, but in the end how anyone states that the kid doesn't have talent is beyond me. His sexuality never entered the picture for me, he was always a pleasant, humble guy, who ALWAYS thanked the band, or the behind the scenes help that he received.

To me, he had class, and I would have been happy with a win for him.

“wherein the “artist” turns every single note into a scale or an arpeggio “

I think it was that guy from New Orleans that really popularized that style. Aaron Neville??????

American Idol...BARF...! OK, so there are great singers out there...dime a dozen! How about adding in the elements of skillfully playing an instrument and performing original songs? I might watch the show if that was the protocol.

PS. Kissing gay pic was a stomach churner too. Sad that kids minds are poisoned by this gay agenda society!

Ditto that. Your opinion matches mine quite well.

You know what the editor’s behavior reminds me of? That sophomore or first year med student who gets their hands on the abnormal psychology text or infectious diseases text. Suddenly, they are diagnosing everyone.

well now American Idol is “that fruity little show”

The irony is I never watched the show except indirect via news blurbs.

I think they know the ratings are dying out so the suits thought to stir up a faux controversy. The wierd one had no chance and they knew it. This whole “controversy” smacks of a ratings stunt desperation.

They are? I was under the impression that AI's ratings are doing quite well. There were nearly 100 MILLION votes cast at the end.

I did read this finale was the second lowest in terms of viewers. Ironically, the most votes were cast.
