Obamamobiles may kill Americans 'faster than Iraqi war'

The Obama administration has announced an executive decision to raise the Corporate Average Fuel Economy, or CAFE, standards to 35.5 miles per gallon by 2016, four years ahead of the deadline originally set by the Energy Security and Independence Act of 2007.
And that could mean danger for many Americans.
Moreover, by advancing by four years the date for the 35.5 mpg CAFÉ standard to be met, Obama is trying to outdo Jimmy Carter in a move that runs the risk of having his administration being characterized as "Jimmy Carter II."
The government move to dictate small cars for the U.S. consumer traces back to the Arab oil embargo and the attempt by Carter to conserve oil by imposing fuel efficiency goals for all vehicles sold in the U.S. market.
On his website, GreenHellBlog.com, Milloy used National Academy of Sciences data to argue the mileage standards will cause around 2,000 highway deaths per year, approximately five new fatalities per day.
By comparison, since 2003, the Iraqi War has caused 4,299 U.S. military deaths.
As additional evidence, Milloy noted National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that every 100-pound reduction in the weight of small cars increases annual traffic facilities by as many as 715.

When the carmakers do finally go bankrupt and close for good
what then was the point of the bailout?

And it was all so unnecessary. All they would have had to do was to pass a law lowering taxes to, oh, say 5%, on interest and gains from corporate bonds. We’d have seen a flood of investments in all aspects of business.
It would have cost the government (taxpayers) nothing.

Driving those little wienies in some areas will be like taking a knife to a gunfight. They will be a casket on wheels, and the big semis will be the angel makers.

The socialist bail outs have nothing to do with money. It's sole purpose is to impose more regulations and expand government with the goal of replacing our Democratic Republic and free market economy with socialism.

I am SICK and TIRED of reading complaints about the government, blah, blah, blah, blah from people everywhere! If you’re not willing to sacrifice, organize and do something about it, then quit complaining and get back to work! This is completely foolish running day after day angry and upset and NOTHING gets done! I sincerely don’t mean to offend, but either get together and so something or quit complaining. It depresses everyone. I am working two jobs to pay bills and have quit complaining. I can NOT quit my jobs and still support my family. And, if I did and tried to do something, how many here would back me up in the effort to do something...maybe two or three. Whoop de doo, that wouldn’t accomplish very much.

As I recall the argument from years ago, BIG trucks and little cars driving together on road. Little cars stop in 1/3 the distance of BIG trucks. The result is that you have a lot of BIG trucks running over small cars in wrecks. THE BIG TRUCK ALWAYS WIN IN THIS SITUATION. Call many meat wagons, ambulances are not necessary.

Why do you assume people are not doing something simply because an article is posted and they reply?
If youre not willing to sacrifice, organize and do something about it, then quit complaining and get back to work!
Why do you assume people aren't working because they participating in a discussion? The fact is people have been organizing as is evident by the tea parties that have been occurring and will continue to organize nationwide. A point that seems to be lost on you.
I sincerely dont mean to offend, but either get together and so something or quit complaining. It depresses everyone.
It's presumptuous of you to assume the purpose of this thread or FR for that matter is to simply complain. The whole point of FR is to inform people who otherwise would not be aware what is occurring since the socialist media will not report these stories!
I am working two jobs to pay bills and have quit complaining. I can NOT quit my jobs and still support my family.
That's great! I give you a lot of credit but no one suggested you must quit your jobs to express your first amendment rights. Speaking out against a government that is usurping its Constitutional authority is hardly complaining. It's a fundamental principle. Not speaking out is abrogating your responsibility to stop such a tyrannical government. It only empowers them by not saying anything. To quote Edmund Burke "The only thing necessary for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing.
And, if I did and tried to do something, how many here would back me up in the effort to do something...maybe two or three.
Assuming for arguments sake you had to quit your jobs, once again have you heard of the tea parties? You wouldn't be alone. In fact far from it. You would be one of millions and that list is growing.
Whoop de doo, that wouldnt accomplish very much.
Complaining about those who you perceive as complaining accomplishes nothing.

I see the price of quality larger used cars going up considerably as not many people are going to want to pay $30,000 for a car that cannot accommodate their kids, has no air conditioning and is made by the government.

I don't know but it sounds like a lot more spending of taxpayers dollars to me!
