Obama says US prisons tough enough for detainees (Obama whines about the mess he was left with)

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama said Thursday some of the terror suspects held at Guantanamo would be brought to prisons in the United States despite fierce opposition in Congress. He promised to work with lawmakers to develop a system for imprisoning detainees who can't be tried and can't be turned loose.

"There are no neat or easy answers here," Obama said in a speech in which he pledged anew to "clean up the mess at Guantanamo" that he said the nation had inherited from the Bush administration.

...

Obama decried arguments used against his plans.

"We will be ill-served by the fear-mongering that emerges whenever we discuss this issue," he declared.

Speaking at the National Archives, Obama said he wouldn't do anything to endanger the American people.

Even if they aren't turned loose, Obama will put them into a population of people who eventually will be turned loose. This will turn our prisons into terrorist training cells.

It’s gotten that bad for him that fast due to his incompetence.

Thank goodness his $$trillions$$ in wasteful spending saved our economy. Only one quarter of a million people are losing their jobs each month. (/s)

Put them in with the Aryan Nations crew - see how long they last.

He knew about this when he ran for office. Now he complains about it? His lack of experience is amazing. I always said we, at this time, need a war time President. VP Cheney would have been the perfect man for the job. I don’t think he was electable because the American people just don’t get it.

Too bad President Pinocchio didn’t know about it before he ran for President.

Then he wouldn’t have let Clinton on his staff, since her husband is responsible.

At least we wouldn't have to worry about them recruiting for jihad. Sounds fair to me.

"Nobody has ever escaped from one of our `supermax' prisons which hold hundreds of convicted terrorists," Obama said.

You asshat. It ain't about them escaping. It's what they can DO from inside a US Prison - even a Supermax, like the ADX in Florence, CO.

fyi, Poop for brains, two leaders of the Aryan Brotherhood were able to issue HIT Orders while being held IN the ADX (Supermax) in Florence, Co by writing letters 'home' to other AB members that were in in code. Imagine what these terrorists could do by writing 'home' in Arabic Code you moron.

And at our other Supermax, in Marion, IL, two guards were attacked on the same day (One Died iirc)- all set up by a coordinated effort among inmates. This attack was why the 'more secure' Supermax in Florence was built. So even the Prison Guards won't be safe from the Jihadists in a Supermax.

Oh. At the Marion Supermax, John Gotti paid the Aryan Brotherhood $35,000 a month for protection after getting his butt kicked really really bad. John Gotti for Pete's sake, and he was only out of his cell one hour a day yet 'they' still got to him. So now idiot, how do YOU even protect fellow prisoners from these guys?

((((((( crickets ))))))))
Barry, you are an embarrassment, you make Jimmy Carter look like George Washington. Your stupidity should be an impeachable offense.

I’m not sure if you have thought of this or not, but they are going to have Muslim brothers in there.

"W" went out with a Congressional authoriation to do all the nastiness he needed to do.

I'd like to agree but this conflating of "war" and "criminal act" is the thing I was worried about back in Sept. 2001.

Unlawful combatants and spies in a declared war do not get 3 squares, flat screen TV, and ping pong. They do not get refugee visas. They do not get released into family neighborhoods in Virginia to compensate for their grievances.

They get a military hearing followed by a firing squad or hanging.

We'll be lucky indeed if our ACLU-infested civilian criminal justice system sends Kahlid Sheik Mohammad to a cement room at the Florence ADX Supermax with his nephew Ramsi Yousef.

>>>> it is _delusional_ to think that the Democrats...... change their approach to making Bush/Cheney responsible for every ill or perceived ill that exists today. <<<<<<

If the Rats and Socialists are able to make GWB/Cheney look “responsible for every ill” it is unfortunately for the reasons I’ve stated above.

If you think that the Rats _need_ the Constituion to do that, then there's nothing I can say that will change your mind. So... have a nice day.

I wouldn't count on the muslims having that much sway in the prisons when you put them up against the blacks, whites, aryans, and hispanics.

Met a fellow in Germany on a train who'd been captured as a POW during the British withdrawal from Dunkirk.

The Brits weren't prepared for many POWs so he was sent to the United States as soon as we entered the war.

He spent the next 5 years working on a sugar beet plantation in Arizona.

Initially he and some others were kept in a bunkhouse. Later on they got moved to a vacant house where they had a stove to cook on.

By the end of the war he could speak fluent English, had become very knowledgeable regarding the uses of sugar beets (he ended up owning an industrial soap company in Germany), and regularly drove himself into town using the plantation's vehicles.

We are not talking about that kind of person being held at Guantanamo.

It's more like another fellow I knew who'd been 12 years old when the Japanese opened a POW camp in Indonesia. The Japanese thought Asiatic children were not dangerous. My friend spend many a night climbing under the wire to take explosives, ammunition and guns in to the prisoners. During the day he'd talk with the Korean guards (Japanese used Korean guards 'cause they were meaner'n hell) until he knew enough Korean to protect himself from discovery.

As we recall the English had been attacked in Europe. They defended themselves long before Parliament got around to passing any sort of war declaration. The Indonesians weren't even self-governing so they couldn't have passed a declaration of war but it was pretty clear to my friend, a 12 year old at the time, that Japan was making war against them and serious action was required.

When it comes to the current war it was Afghanistan/AlQaida that attacked us first. When it comes to the situation in Iraq we were there following a UN mission regarding Iraqi violations of the agreement they'd made to end Gulf War I.

Certainly the USA can defend itself and launch retaliatory actions without a "formal" anything.

The b*5+*rdz fired at use first.

I would submit that some of your most violent Black offenders are Black Muslim. If you want to dismiss that, it’s fine by me. I don’t want terrorists in prison mingling with a population that includes people who think they’ve been treated unfairly, and hate this government.
