WASHINGTON -- A top Al Qaeda suspect held at Guantanamo Bay will be sent to New York for trial, an Obama administration official said Wednesday.

Ahmed Ghailani would be the first Guantanamo detainee brought to the U.S., and the first to face trial in a civilian criminal court.

An official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to disclose the decision, told The Associated Press the administration has decided to bring Ghailani to trial in New York. He was indicted there for the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Africa -- attacks that killed 224 people, including 12 Americans.

[I’ll give you two to one odds he’s acquitted.]

Indeed. When he is moved from military custody into federal court jurisdiction the rules change. And he’ll get the best legal talent for free because of the news media coverage which could turn him into a folk hero. The costs of logistics, security and disruption of normal business will be in the tens of millions of dollars.

It will take one Muslim or America-hating leftist juror to hang the jury. Wouldn’t it be amazing if this guy walks.

How can they have a fair trial when they don't have a jury of their "peers"?

Unless we send them to San Francisco of course.

Absolutely. Conservatives are nowhere to be found in the schools. Our children have been indoctrinated for decades. The move to socialism here is a result.

The problem with trying terrorists in American courts is that, when convicted, they get sent to American prisons. By doing this, President Obama will be effectively arranging the meeting between hardened terrorists and hardened criminals.

With his decision to try terrorists in civilian courts of law, Mr. Obama is proposing to broker the meeting between people who are well-conected to well-financed terror networks, and people who are serving sentences for murder, but who will walk out of prison in 3 to 7 years. Perhaps after having converted to Islam.

The Islamacists are at war with us. Mr. Obama is proposing to give them access to disaffected and violent criminals. The consequences of this action are easily predicable and extremely dangerous.

C'mon...at least try the guy in a state that employs the death penalty!!! Take him to Texas!

Or better yet, just implant him with a GPS tracker and put him back on the battlefield.

Good one.

After the election, I told my friends I was going to give him a chance...that he'd have to be an idiot to raise taxes in the face of a recession. He blew the idiot standard sky-high in his first 100 days.

I'm beginning to think both one and two.

Too bad obie lost his law degree. He could actually be in court on the prosecution team. Fun to see how he would do. But I’m sure in his heart he would rather work for the defense.
