A state panel this morning slashed the salaries of elected state officials by 18% -- a day after voters rejected a plan by the governor and Legislature to address the budget crisis.
Citing pay cuts and layoffs being imposed on rank-and-file state workers, the California Citizens Compensation Commission approved the reduction for the governor, legislators and other state officials elected next year.
"I think they should share in the sacrifices that everyone else has had to encounter," said Commissioner Kathy Sands, a former Auburn mayor, after the panel's 5-1 vote at a meeting in Burbank.
The commission had wanted to decrease current officials' pay, but the panel's attorney said California law does not allow that.

The commission had wanted to decrease current officials' pay, but the panel's attorney said California law does not allow that. So, the people who caused the problem will continue to receive their salary. The people who we want to go in and fix the problem will now get a lesser salary (which wasn't all that high to start with.)
This is just silly, IMO.

NO! I should have said “officials” but, actually lots of other FEDERALES should get pay cuts, but NOT troops, or Border Patrol, or Policing agencies...

Let me get this straight. An 18% pay cut that doesn’t really affect anyone? LOL!

Wait a second. Across the board? Shared sacrifice?
No No No No No.
PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR NEVER-CLOSING MOUTHS ARE, LIBERALS.
For any state employee making more than $100k/yr, take the rest. Because I keep hearing non-stop from you filthy hypocrites that no one "needs" more than a share that YOU deem worthy.
And since Hollywood constantly interfere with our voting process, they are, by extension, state employees too.
SO TAKE IT ALL...
Surely, they can "live" on 100k a year like the rest of us unwashed masses, eh?

Um...nobody’s pay has been cut yet.
This is for people who have not been elected yet.
The current crop of bozos will keep their pay.

How about having the state shoot one assembly member each week, name to be drawn from a hat, until the budget is balanced.
Would that not motivate them even more?
