FReeper LantzALot Battling last stages of Cancer - died June 8
all over the place | 19 May 2009 | Dolly

Posted on 05/19/2009 5:19:00 PM PDT by DollyCali

Our dear friend is fighting hard the last leg of his battle with cancer. He lost his wife a few years ago & has gone through his own journey of misery with the big C

How to you pray for a good friend who is fighting the last struggle? I guess with lots of love and with the trust of God to see him through his transition to glory. I regret deeply we never met face to face(YET).. but email & phone calls do strengthen ties & that is good I guess.

LanZALot needs our prayers and needs to hear some “good stuff” from Freepers!~

Calling all Freepers (and especially the Singles from a few years back) who know LantzALot…(also Calknight & OneMoreKnight on other forums)

Most of us know him as a wonderfully gentle spirit of fun & warmth.. He exuded friendship & his love of music & considerate attitude just brought a smile to ones soul

A couple years ago he enjoyed a family cruise & took /posted some pix & many of us for the first time were able to put a face with a pix.. I speak with him on the phone on occasion & his voice if firm & warm.. Loving & considerate. That is Lew.. That is Lantzalot..

His last post here at FR was at the thread of Ray Malone(CommonTator) death.. HERE

I suspect when I send him the link to this thread he will check in if he can

Here are his posts at Free Republic

Here are some of his recent notes from here & there & yonder. So you might have some background.

– “Just to update you all:

In recent weeks, my visits here have become fewer and farther between. It has been getting to be quite a chore to leave my room and walk the 15 or 20 steps to the "computer room." Well, in the past few days, it is getting to be a near impossibility. So I have to consider that this ... or my next trip here ... or the next -- could be my last time. I would like you all to know that the time I have been able to spend with you has been most enjoyable. A real blessing.

from April 15

I'm a transplant from Indiana (Fort Wayne) to California (now living in San Pedro.) I've blossomed and flourished here, but will never shake that Hoosier soil from my roots. I have a sister still living in Fort Wayne and a brother who's moved to southern Indiana. My elder sister passed on in april, 2000.

Moved to California in 1962, just before my 21st birthday, and got a job at a defense contractor. Stayed with that company until 1996, when I was blessed with early retirement.

In 1969, I met the most beautiful woman in the world; married her in 1971. It was 30 years of bliss until her passing in 2001, nine days before 9/11. We loved to travel together, read books to each other, and just be in each other's company. From our previous marriages, she had six daughters, I had a son and daughter. The grandchildren number 18, and there is a one-year-old great granddaughter.

It was through her that my politics changed from liberal to conservative. In about 1999 I joined what was probably then the most prominent conservative web site, posting under the name "LantzALot." (My family name is Lantz.) They were heady times, culminating in booting the Clintons out of the White House in favor of "W."

Since my wife's passing, politics has become a less prominent part of my life. When I returned to that web site a couple of years ago, it seemed that the level of discussion had deteriorated, and the poster we know as "Ghost" guided me to another. I took the name "Calknight" on that site, and when Ghost introduced me to The Right Reasons, I became just "onemoreknight."

One thing that has always been a big part of my life is music, from listening to the radio at my mother's knee in the '40s, to dancing at record hops in the '50s, to singing folk and folk rock (always in the privacy of home.) In the late '90s I fell in love with Irish music. In the last couple of years, I have indulged my love of music by participating in NCJim's "This Is The Week That Was In Matters Musical" thread, and by (you are permitted to laugh here) singing in karaoke bars.

Two years ago, I was diagnosed with cancer. It was removed by surgery, but the surgeon told me it would be back in six to twelve months. Well, I lasted twice that amount of time. Scans at 17 months after surgery showed me still clean, but at 21 months (about two weeks ago) it was back -- apparently with a vengeance. In the terminology of poker tournaments, I have been playing the short stack and holding my own; but now I'm all in, and the turn has given my opponent the advantage. If I don't get a miracle on the river, at least I've had a good run

April 16

My political conversion. Mine didn't come out of intellectual pursuit, merely from observing that the "anti-establishment" furor of the '60s and '70s was contrary to my values, and realization that my youthful idealism was misguided.

Mar 31 2009

When I was dating my wife, Marta, in 1970, she brought an album to my apartment, and said, “You have to hear this!” It was Days of Future Passed, by The Moody Blues.

Now, a little perspective: she was eight years older than me, and did not (fully) share my taste in music. When I was a freshman in high school, dancing to “Don’t Be Cruel,” she was already married and had two (of her six) daughters. She had about the same opinion of rock and roll as my parents had.

But this was different: a whole new sound. I was awestruck. I was impressed that a “rock” band would open with a symphony orchestra ..

Lew introduced me to many musical groups.. . If you go to the various threads at various forums at which he posted you are impressed with his knowledge & appreciation of many genre of music.. He shared many with me …two especially have captured my heart and soul. Celtic Thunder and Celtic Women

Here are a few links of music of theirs that Lew shared with me and I now have shared with many others along the way

Knights (or is it NIGHTS?... LOL) in White Satan – Lew is a Moodly Blues fan but I LOVED this visual with the sound for the song.

Nights in White Satin – Celtic Thunder

Lew if you read this.. KNOW that I listen to this daily & think of you.. and I LOVE YOU DEAR FRIEND…. Just as in this song.. the love that God gives to his people to share..I love you, yes, I love you, Oh I how I love you.. ..How I love you….

I know what Love Is – Celtic Thunder

A Bird without Wings – Celtic Thunder

Orinoco Flow – Celtic Women

Beyond the Sea - Celtic Women

in honor of our friend Lew aka:LantzALot.

Jeremy Camp - There Will Be A Day

"I try to hold on to this world with everything I have
But I feel the weight of what it brings, and the hurt that trys to grab
The many trials that seem to never end, His word declares this truth,
that we will enter in this rest with wonders anew

But I hold on to this hope and the promise that He brings That there will be a place with no more suffering

(Chorus)
There will be a day with no more tears, no more pain, and no more fears
There will be a day when the burdens of this place, will be no more, we'll see Jesus face to face
But until that day, we'll hold on to you always

I know the journey seems so long
You feel youre walking on your own
But there has never been a step
Where youve walked out all alone

(Chorus)

Troubled soul dont lose your heart
Cause joy and peace he brings
And the beauty thats in store
Outweighs the hurt of lifes sting

I cant wait until that day where the very one Ive lived for always will wipe away the sorrow that Ive faced
To touch the scars that rescued me from a life of shame and misery this is why this is why I sing"
