THE HAGUE (AFP) – Oscar winner Angelina Jolie attended a war crimes trial in The Hague on Tuesday, hailing the bravery of youngsters who testified against Congolese militia leader Thomas Lubanga.

"Children deserve special protection. Using children in conflict is a heinous crime and destroys the very fabric of a society," said Jolie, who is a goodwill ambassador for the UN's refugee agency.

"I imagined how difficult it must be for all the brave young children who have come to testify against him," she said in a statement.

Lubanga, 48, has pleaded not guilty to using children under the age of 15 to fight for his militia during the five-year civil war in the Democratic Republic of Congo which ended in 2003.

It must be wonderful to be an actress. You get to be part of stuff you don't even have to work for.

It's called the "bully pulpit". Brad Pit used it well...and to date, so has obammer.

They both are living proof that you don't have to know a thing about which you are speaking....you just go right ahead and use your "celeb" to shoot off your big mouth.

Pit was better at it than obammer has been.

Pit didn't have to use a teleprompter.

And I thought she was just an overpaid, under-worked actress craving attention.

Hey, give her some credit. She’s actually going places and participating, even if it’s merely a celebrity showing support. She’s putting her money where her mouth is - more than most can say.

I’m with you there- she’s a celeb using her status to promote a worthy cause. Nothing wrong with that, and a lot of good has come from celebrity endorsements.

Wouldn’t surprise me a bit if she innocently told an organization taking care of orphans that she would be happy to take a few children in to give them a home.

There are lots of actors and actresses who have chosen to become a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations. You’ve got to admit, the United Nations doesn’t miss a trick.

They pick folks who barely have the intelligence to keep themselves alive, and then helps them sucker millions of others to support an organization like the U.N., an entity seeking to destroy their own self governance.

If the U.N. got it’s way, Angelina would lose about 99% of her income for the betterment of mankind. Of course the U.N. would determine how mankind would be bettered as well.

It sure wouldn’t benefit people in a free society like ours.

I heard that Jessica Lange was before congress a number of years ago talking about something or other.
I think it had something to do with giant gorillas, Monster Island, etc...I wasn’t paying attention.

A Goodwill Ambassador, something many strive for in that prestigious field. [sarcasm]

Basically she goes around the world and points out that there are starving people in the world. You know, something we never knew about before.

Well, they’re not exactly paid to think. They throw a few crumbs at her and make her think she’s important.

Does anyone know if it’s true she’s on the Council of Foreign Relations? I heard she was, but I didn’t see her name on the official website.

Actors are paid what they’re worth. Don’t attend their movies in mass and the salary goes down. It’s called the market.

You know, one day I came across my brother watching a dirty film and I commented about the acting and he said they weren't paid to act.

I take the personal philosophy that as porn stars are not paid to act, similarly actresses and actors are not paid to think.

It helps me avoid getting too consumed with rage.

I recently heard a comment that Jolie said she only acts to support her charities.

Well, then she isn’t just showing up somewhere uninvited, she probably thinks, or has some duty, as part of her duty of that position.

Now, if some other retard showed up, yeah, I could see your point.

I just dislike how she tries to involve herself as if she is a real abassador or offical and not a piece of humanitarian fluff.
