Oh my: Jim Webb flip-flops, now opposes closing Guantanamo

To be more precise: He now opposes closing it anytime soon but naturally is A-OK with closing it at some murky, distant time in the future. Which, as far as I can tell, means he holds the same position on it as George W. Bush or Dick Cheney. Moe Lane thinks this is poll-driven but I’m more inclined to believe that someone with a national security background like Webb’s knew all along that it was a bad idea to close it and was simply giving The One political cover until there was a fig leaf available to let him flip-flop.

The new military commissions are that fig leaf, allowing him to pretend that all the alleged defects in Bush’s approach have been cured and therefore Gitmo’s no longer a problem, so a flip-floppin’ we go. The more intriguing question is whether he’s undercutting Obama by doing this or actually secretly helping him out. Superficially it’s a headache for the White House to have a prominent Democratic senator disagreeing with them on Sunday morning TV, but given the respect Webb commands, this gives The One plenty of new political cover to do some flip-flopping himself. Time to put the nutroots on suicide watch?

... but given the respect Webb commands ...

ROTFL.

Maybe Sen. Webb could slip a gun into the Club Gitmo detainees' checked baggage when they fly into Dulles.

Washington is now starting to look like a cheap, “B” movie. “The Night of the Buffoons”.

Close it after all of the terrorists are dead.

Not just the terrorists already at GITMO, but ALL terrorists!

Rep. Jim “Moron” suggested the detainees could be sent to the federal facility in Lorton, Va... Michael Steele peppered Tim Kaine on this suggestion yesterday on Meet the Press.

“...that someone with a national security background like Webb’s...”

WHAT? He has as much “national security” background as my cat! He only THINKS he does cause he wrote a few books and was SecNav for what, 18 months? then he quit. He is a wonder in his own mind and is certifiable - no kidding - a big, low-blow (ask Ollie North and his many ex-wives) POS - VA stepped into it BIG time with this one...

Jim Webb always has a wet finger into the wind to see where his scruples have to be at the moment.

This shows how incredibly evil Demonrats naturally are in that they were playing politics with an issue so important to the lives’ of the American people and were willing to harm this country all to see Bush and Republicans take the fall. Webb and these hypocrites owe the Bush administration an apology. Obviously, they will never give one, but they need to be confronted with these facts repeatedly. There is no getting out of what this says about these people.
