The Republican strategist who helped Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman prepare for a possible presidential run says the Republican party is in for a devastating defeat if its guiding lights are Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh and Dick Cheney. "If it's 2012 and our party is defined by Palin and Limbaugh and Cheney, then we're headed for a blowout," says strategist John Weaver, who advised Huntsman and was for years a close adviser to Sen. John McCain. "That's just the truth."
Huntsman, a favorite of GOP moderates, left the Republican presidential race last week after accepting President Obama's offer to become U.S. ambassador to China. Before that, Huntsman appeared to be working hard on preparations for 2012. "He had not made a decision to run for president, but he had made a decision to prepare to run," says Weaver. "We were probably a month away from announcing the formation of a political action committee, so we were pretty far down the road."

Reagan won a very small majority because his message was right for the times and the Dem’s lost the moderates. He was also an extremely good candidate. In addition at that time we did not have the demographic changes that we have now coming from Mexico. If you think you can just ignore a majority of the people you are smoking crack.

Huh? We have clear proof that Palin believes and lives by what she says on abortion. We have clear proof that Palin believes and lives by what she says on the Second Amendment. We have clear proof in many other areas that Palin is an honorable person with solid values. Palin has governed Alaska responsibly. Palin is a great speaker. But because her daughter did something stupid and then kept the baby, you'd disqualify Palin for higher office? There is no hypocrisy in raising a daughter who doesn't do as you have taught her 100% of the time, and I have no blame for Governor Palin on that topic. We should not run from a perception, not when that perception was created by the media to stop the best hope for conservativism and freedom.
Thanks, but instead of waiting for the perfect, I will "settle" for someone better than any other possible candidate I have found, someone who is likely to beat Obama in 2012, hopefully in time to save the United States as a free country. Palin strikes me as that best possible candidate. I will consider others, and I expect Palin to earn that nomination rather than being coronated, but she's very likely to get my vote if she stands up for her beliefs for four more years.

Huntsman is for Huntsman... always has been. Rich daddy, lazy bum as a kid... got his GED instead of a HS Diploma. His 4 day week for state employees in Utah is his shining achievement and it’s caused a lot of disruption to the public and no savings. He’s recently mandated that building contractors and subs are required to provide health insurance for all employees in order to do business with the state. Sounds like someone that Obama would like....

Just shows you how scared the entrenched pols are of real conservatives. If we DON’T go back to conservative principles then we will surely lose our tails in 2010. All this pushing by both sides for conservatives to turn “moderate”(in other words to turn communist)is simply because they are afraid of the backlash they have unleashed and must face in 2010. The GOP had better turn conservative soon or they will face the fact they are a party without a base.

I’m not a huge Palin fan myself. Does she really understand the issues? She seemed like she was willing to be groomed by the McCain campaign. That’s not the leader we need right now.
I respect Chenney and would certainly be interested in what he has to say if he wanted to run for POTUS.
I love Rush. But I don’t expect him to run for office. But hopefully he will keep holding everyone’s feet to the fire.

Guess what? I’d rather be CORRECT on the issues and lose than WRONG on the issues and win.
Just how I feel. BO won the election, but he is dangerous and bad for America. Winning proves nothing.
Weaver has a lot of gal in declaring a blowout loss. HIS candidate and employer (McCain)was almost blown out by Obama. The RINO nomination of McCain really worked out fine, didn't it Weaver?
