Huntsman strategist: If Palin and Limbaugh dominate, GOP 'headed for a blowout' in 2012
Washington Examiner ^ | 05/18/09 | Byron York

Posted on 05/18/2009 7:22:04 AM PDT by redk

The Republican strategist who helped Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman prepare for a possible presidential run says the Republican party is in for a devastating defeat if its guiding lights are Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh and Dick Cheney. "If it's 2012 and our party is defined by Palin and Limbaugh and Cheney, then we're headed for a blowout," says strategist John Weaver, who advised Huntsman and was for years a close adviser to Sen. John McCain. "That's just the truth."

Huntsman, a favorite of GOP moderates, left the Republican presidential race last week after accepting President Obama's offer to become U.S. ambassador to China. Before that, Huntsman appeared to be working hard on preparations for 2012. "He had not made a decision to run for president, but he had made a decision to prepare to run," says Weaver. "We were probably a month away from announcing the formation of a political action committee, so we were pretty far down the road."

Where has this moron been? The GOP has been getting their collective butts kicked precisely because they refuse to listen to Limbaugh or Palin.

I’m really beginning to believe the GOP is a lost cause.

Let it be known that whenever Huntsman runs...2012 or 2032, I’ll do everything I can to defeat him.

I never heard of him, until the msm started calling him a frontrunner.

That’s kinda the way it is when there isn’t a heir apparent as the situation is today. It is very possible for someone to come out of obscurity to be the nominee. On a national level state by state I’m not sure who has the organization and backing to be the front runner at this time. Depending upon where the Obama fad is come 2012 may well determine the GOP nominee.

We don’t need another Democratic Party. Palin fired up the Independents, they will be the ones who will decide the outcome like they did for IKE.

The one and only reason this guy is even in the headlines is because he supports gay marriage. He has become the token RINO media darling now.

That's all you need to know. They're afraid of Limbaugh, Cheney and Palin.

Huntsman's father was a stand-up guy who built a multimillion dollar company from scratch. We used to be their direct competitors. They played clean and almost beat us because they could deliver a better product for the money. I didn't like them as competitors, but we understood them and respected them.

The kid I have no respect for-- I understand that he headed McCain's campaign in Utah. How did nominating the choice of the New York Times work out for us in 2008?

The only reason I gave $$$ last year was to support Palin and Hunter. It sure wasn’t because I liked McCain.

who the hell is Huntsman?

(from Wikipedia)

Huntsman is the son of billionaire businessman and philanthropist Jon Huntsman of Huntsman Corporation. Huntsman dropped out of high school to be in a rock n' roll band. He attended the University of Utah, where he became a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He received a Bachelor's degree in business from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania after transferring to that school.

From 1987 to 1988, Huntsman and his family lived and worked in Taipei. After college, Huntsman worked as a White House staff assistant in the Reagan Administration, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce and U.S. Ambassador to Singapore in the administration of President George H.W. Bush and a deputy United States trade representative in the George W. Bush Administration.

In addition to his public service, Huntsman served as an executive for the Huntsman Corporation, the Huntsman Cancer Foundation and CEO of Huntsman Family Holdings Company. Other organizations he has served include the Utah Opera, Envision Utah, the Coalition for Utah's Future, and KSL-TV's Family Now campaign.

In November 2004, Huntsman was elected with 57% of the vote, defeating Democratic Party nominee Scott Matheson, Jr.[7] He was re-elected in November 2008 with 77.7% of the vote, defeating Democratic Party nominee Bob Springmeyer.

---------------

I had no idea he had done all that. I just knew he had been a billionaire CEO of Huntsman Corp. I think the "high school dropout" part of his history is probably guiding his politics right now...

One of my coworkers said recently that Reagan was the only president he actually wanted to vote for. He said all other times he felt as though he was voting for the person who sucked the least.

I'm not old enough to have voted for Reagan but I feel that way about Palin, not Huntsman, not Romney, not Crist. Palin.

Honestly, I've never heard of him either until the media started hyping him as the 2nd GOP coming.

Huntsman is the new McCain. An unelectable, unprincipled squish. Nominate him, get the same result.

Huntsman Corp was founded by Jon Huntsman the father. Not his disgrace of a son.

Anyone who advised John McCain is an expert on the status of the Republican Party ? Give me a break. McCain is the prime reason that the party is in disarray. The Palin pick as McCains running mate was the only intelligent thing done
by the McCain crowd.
