Huntsman strategist: If Palin and Limbaugh dominate, GOP 'headed for a blowout' in 2012

The Republican strategist who helped Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman prepare for a possible presidential run says the Republican party is in for a devastating defeat if its guiding lights are Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh and Dick Cheney. "If it's 2012 and our party is defined by Palin and Limbaugh and Cheney, then we're headed for a blowout," says strategist John Weaver, who advised Huntsman and was for years a close adviser to Sen. John McCain. "That's just the truth."
Huntsman, a favorite of GOP moderates, left the Republican presidential race last week after accepting President Obama's offer to become U.S. ambassador to China. Before that, Huntsman appeared to be working hard on preparations for 2012. "He had not made a decision to run for president, but he had made a decision to prepare to run," says Weaver. "We were probably a month away from announcing the formation of a political action committee, so we were pretty far down the road."

If this is how Huntsman and his advisors feel, I hope he stays in China.

Funny, they’ve tried to be dhimmicratic lite - and yup, they were blown out.
That “strategist” should work for GM and Chrysler - he would be one amongst a band of fellow idiots.

A two-party system is predicated on the two parties being different, Jon-Jon.
If they're both the same, what is the point?

How well did McCain do? Even he had to admit that Palin helped him get more votes. If the GOP wants to become another wing of the Dem party, then it will be a much smaller wing. Conservatives will form their own party.

Sounds like the stuff they said about Reagan in 1980 and we all know how that turned out. They said the same stuff about Reagan in 1984 and we also know how that turned out.

We need a thorough decontamination of the GOP before 2012. I am glad it’s already underway.

Another Obama supporter giving the GOP advice for beating Democrats.
Gee, if we could just run a “moderate maverick” as an experiment, I wonder what would happen.

Byron York was on Bill Bennett this morning and Bennett started in on Palin (again). A lady called in and really gave it to Bennett with both barrels, which I loved. Bennett didn’t back down, though. He still thinks Palin is damaged goods.

You need to have a majority of the people to win. that means you need your conservative base and your moderates. Moderates are needed and their are certain parts of the country where the only alternative to them is the Dem's. If they leave we are doomed. But, the best way to get the moderates thrown out of the party is to ignore your conservative base. If you think you can do that then you are smoking crack. you need a program and an agenda that is in line with your parties principles that appeals to your base and the moderates and that is right for the time. And most importantly is something you can believe in. Otherwise forget about winning.
When a party is just plain unresponsive like the Bushies were then the Conservatives try to throw out the moderates that didn't leave and the rest of the mdoerates leave. That is disaster.
