A federal judge in Los Angeles is set to sentence Lori Drew this morning on misdemeanor convictions linked to the cyber-bullying of a teenager who committed suicide in Dardenne Prairie in 2006.
The court's pre-sentence report recommends probation and a $5,000 fine. The defense is asking for probation without the fine. Prosecutors have indicated they will seek the maximum of one year in prison on each count, run consecutively to make three years.

That bitch deserves about 20 years in jail for pushing that teenage girl over the edge.
This is breaking new ground- Imagine in real life if she had done these things to that girl in school or on the streets.
I guess setting an example is a good thing.
Now if they would just impose the DEATH PENALTY to spammers and virus makers. (Seriously, the internet is involved in life or death situations now)
Just because someone tells you to jump off a bridge, does not mean you have to do it...
This is absurd...
I agree 100%

It is quite illegal in many jurisdictions to encourage or assist somebody to commit suicide. The penalties are quite stiff.
I think this is bloody brilliant, and would encourage the Judge to go with the Prosecution’s suggested maximum penalties.
So if that someone is in their 30s or 40s and they are telling a 14 year old to jump off the bridge because the world would be a better place without them you think that is a perfectly okay action?
Okay if a teacher or a minister makes those comments?
So supposed grownups have no responsibility towards minor children?
Do you think it would be okay if someone older told your child to take off their clothes that would be okay?
If you know someone is a child molester, and you walk by s/he every day with a young child, eventually something is going to give.
Just a question. Wasn’t the 14 year old unaware that she was in contact with an adult and didn’t she think that the person was a peer? Would that alter what is being presented as an adult made her do it?
Fine. I think the situation is a tad more nuanced that you suggest.
My interest (if you want to call it that) relates to just what kind of despicable human being this so-called mother is. How does someone in their mid to late 40s get so inappropriately wrapped up in the petty squabbles between teenage girls and escalate it to the level she did?
She needs a nuthouse more than a jailhouse.
I'd tell you what I think of your comment but I don't want to be charged with "cyber-bullying".
(Whatever the hell *that* is).
No, the girl’s mother was more at fault in this than anyone. The mother previously stated the girl had mental problems. The mother admitted the girl had problems dealing with others. The mother also knew of problems on the internet, again dealing with others, yet continued to allow the girl to still chat on line. The mother let the girl go next door to visit this make believe boy without bothering to get to the bottom of what was going on or putting a stop to it. The mother knew the girl hadn’t taken her meds or whatever. The girl asked the mother to stay home with her that day because she was stressing out but the mother went to her dentist appointment anyway. The girl called the mother’s cell more than once wanting her mother to come home but the mother refused. The girl committed suicide. The mother blamed the neighbors.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Sticks and stones, etc. You probably know the rest even though in your self rightous indignation you are ignoring it.
I agree.
Yes, the girl thought it was another young boy. The ‘boy’ was created by the mother of her classmate.
Don’t the sexual predators get prison time for chatting online with underage girls and boys.
They don’t get off because the the real ‘child’ was an adult.
I’m with you there, it should have never gotten to the point where this could have happened.
True, they need to blind fold the woman and put her on top of the golden gate bridge and tell her don't get close to the edge.
Now that would be a novel trial to watch...we can go to jail if we even threaten a sitting president...but is it against the law to encourage a sitting president to off himself for the greater good and the honor of the nation? I know it was often the Roman way and in Martial era Japan!
I’ll be rooting for you dhm914 if the Obama Hitler youth come to arrest you!(LOL)
