Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.) is co-sponsoring a House of Representatives bill preventing people on the government's no-fly list from purchasing guns.
House representatives will introcude a bill Wednesday that would ban anyone on the controversial no-fly list from purchasing a gun in the U.S.
Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.), a strong gun control advocate, is co-sponsoring the legislation that would apply to the nearly 1 million people that make up the governments no-fly list people believed to either be terrorist or have strong terrorism connections.
Currently the no-fly list is not a part of the background check for buying guns.
A Zogby International Poll last month found that 69 percent of 3,967 registered American voters only supported a move to prohibit people on the no-fly list from buying a weapon if they have previously been convicted of a crime. On the other hand, 20 percent said anyone on the list should be prohibited.
The no-fly list has received criticism in the past for stopping people with similar names to those on the list from flying.
2. Remove "terrorists" rights by not allowing them to fly or buy guns.
3. ???
I do not think this legislation has much chance right now, but a number of far left organizations and legislators seem to think it is a good idea.
You are putting the pieces together.
Liberalism is not always transparent.
I presume that they would have a special exemption for teddy kennedy?
What she really wants is to ban everyone who flies in an airplane from owning a gun.
Presumably, McCarthy doesn’t have to worry about a “no fly” ban as her broom quietly waits in the corner ...
Teddy doesn’t need a gun, as long as he’s got a car.
Check out the video directly related to the subject!
I guess they found the clause “shall not be infringed, unless one is on a list created by incompetent people in a department yet to be created”
My congressional representative, who doesn’t even have a clue where her hometown is anymore, never met a water pistol that she didn’t want banned.
They can use the Social Security computers. That data base is pristine.
If that’s the case then she’s going about it in a most indirect way, banning guns from those NOT able to fly first.
You can bet your bottom dollar that this is something snakey repackaged in the form of this bill. If this bill is read in its entirety, you can bet that it has hidden bombs in it. Hopefully, those bombs will be discovered and this bill killed.
If these people are on a no fly list, then why are they not rounded up and deported in the first place?
Because a lot of the people on the no-fly list are probably there through questionable profiling?
So we’ll be allowed to profile gun owners but not Muslims! Sounds just like an idea from the looney, gun-grabbing left! Oh, wait...
Once you start infringing, there will never be a firm endpoint.
America -- a great idea, didn't last.
You are correct, and also right. Maybe it is time to round up the profilers and deport them to their favorite socialist country. We just get closer, every day, to armed revolution.
Oh, good plan. Expand the erroneous and ambiguous list compiled by incompetents so that it can injure more people in more fundamental ways than it did before. Your tax dollars at “work”.
For this reason some on the left have opposed the "No Fly" list.
Now the same people want to use it to prevent a person from buying a gun?
