NEW YORK -- Alex Rodriguez's first hit at the new Yankee Stadium was a doozy.

I’m a Yankee fan. I proposed to my wife at the Stadium.

But this is not front page news.

You know what? Let the powers that be throw it out.

I’ve said that Mark Texeira is too good to let his slump effect him. He still took pitches and wasn’t lunging at the ball. 4 for 4 with a walk. Give him credit for having the presence and patience.

Very very disturbing pictures and I am a lifelong Yankees fan...they have to slash the prices for those seats by at least 40%.

They didn’t even sell out for the Red Sox.

I’ve been saying that for years. The Curse will really kick into gear once Yankee Stadium is torn down.

I’ve been to both, and as you say they were both on same grounds. The bleachers were the same one from the original. The bullpen was there, although not in use.
They should have kept the auxiliary scoreboards, and kept some semblece of death valley.
I undestand it was D Winfiled who begged Yankee brass to move in the fences.

I undestand it was D Winfield who begged Yankee brass to move in the fences.

Well, not really sure if it was Winfield himself, but obviously moving the left-center fence inwards was at the behest of George Steinbrenner *because* of Dave Winfield, who was billed as a 'complement to Reggie -- power, but with an added hitting ability' ... Winfield was to become the next Gehrig or DiMaggio, only one problem --- Winfield batted righty (as did Joe D), whereas Gehrig batted lefty .. and righty batters who combined hitting ability with power were dead meat in the vast left-center pasture of the *old* Yankee Stadium (just ask Joey D how many home-runs turned long-doubles he lost in that south-40!)

And so the left-center fences were moved in -- from an almost insurmountable 457' during DiMaggio's era, to 411' when Winfield first came on the scene, and then to 399' later on .. still a good blast to be sure, but nothing near resembling the 'death valley' of old ..

Steinbrenner didn't want to see his new phenom, Winfield, become another DiMaggio victim with the (not really) "Death Valley" out there in left-center, and so the fences were moved in ... oh well, its all gone now, except for the memories and legends :)
