PHOENIX (AP) - Sen. John McCain says the United States needs to do more to crack down on gun smuggling into Mexico, but that such assistance in Mexico's war against drug cartels doesn't require restrictions on the gun rights of law-abiding Americans.
McCain told several thousand people at the National Rifle Association's convention in Phoenix on Friday that limiting guns sales in the United States won't prevent the cartels from buying weapons from other countries.
. . . . .
McCain says the U.S. government has overstated the prevalence of guns being smuggled from the United States into Mexico for use by cartels.

I know John. He’ll be in some liberal bastion soon enough, and he’ll have words of comfort for that crowd too.
McCain says the U.S. government has overstated the prevalence of guns being smuggled from the United States into Mexico for use by cartels.
Okay, hmmm, let's see, it's around here somewhere.
Ah, here it is. I found the calendar.
Now, I turn to May, and mark the 15th as the day this month that Mister McCain chooses to be a Republican.

Sen. John McCain says the United States needs to do more to crack down on gun smuggling into Mexico...
False as you can get, the "gun running" is minuscule. Guns go with Mexican Army deserters to the cartels.
McCain says cartels threaten the security of the United States because America doesn't have a secure border and has a big appetite for illegal drugs from Mexico.
Half false, US drug appetite has nothing to do with it, if it did drugs would come across the Canadian borer in the same quantities. The problem has always been the open border to a criminal nation.
The rest is true, but McCain is no prize or friend of 2A.
You are at fault for our non-secure border, Senator....& YES, we do have an "appetite for drugs". We love our drugs just like we love our guns. Now LEAVE US ALONE & let us enjoy or God-given right to pursue happiness as we see fit (provided that we don't violate another person's rights in the process)!
without injury or loss there is no crime
Is he talking out of both sides of his mouth again?
So he thinks we should “do more.”Does he think we should be interdicting Chinese ships off the coast of Mexico to search for guns? or transhipments from Cuba? We can stop 100% of the guns that cross the Us/Mex border and it will make zero difference in the problem in Mexico. The freighter lots and the automatic weapons and the grenades and the RPGs come from elsewhere.
If the Mexican government was so upset about guns being smuggled into their country from the U.S., you’d think they’d might build a WALL or something to cut down on the smuggling......
Stopped clock. Give him an hour, and he’ll be off again. MHO, anyway. Could be Johnny’s feeling the heat and wants to lay groundwork for the upcoming primaries.
He's gearing up his campaign for 2012. /s
Bite your tongue!
Mphh mphh. Mphh mphh mphh. ;^!
“McCain says the U.S. government has overstated the prevalence of guns being smuggled from the United States into Mexico for use by cartels.”
I suppose he was bound to get one right once in a while. A Sheriff from a Texas county was on radio a day or so ago. They can’t get any help from the feds. He said he’d been waiting 2 months for an AR-15...BUT, we seem to have millions to give to Mexico!
US gives Mexico armored vehicles to aid drug fight
13 hours ago
MEXICO CITY (AP) Mexico received eight armored vehicles as part of a U.S. aid package to help the government with its nationwide fight against drug cartels, the government announced Friday.
Officials held a ceremony to receive the vehicles, which the U.S. Embassy said will help protect federal police agents during counternarcotics operations.
The United States has plans to deliver $39 million in nonintrusive inspection equipment as well as new ballistics equipment for forensics laboratories in the next weeks. The U.S. also has initiated a broad range of training programs in coordination with Mexican law enforcement authorities.
The U.S. Congress has appropriated $700 million over the past two years to help Mexico fight the cartels.[snip]

Give? Don’t we buy a massive amount of oil from Mexico. Surely the government must have some revenue to pay it’s own way.
I guess the rest of his brain is gone now if he truly believes US guns are the problem in Mexico.
“Dont we buy a massive amount of oil from Mexico. Surely the government must have some revenue to pay its own way.”
I understand we buy a lot of oil from them.
Isn’t it interesting that the world’s 2nd richest man is a Mexican? ......the Mexican telecoms tycoon Carlos Slim....and that Forbes magazine’s latest list of the world’s billionaires includes Mexico’s most wanted man - Joaquin Guzman. ...
10 billionaires from Mexico on the list last year. And more millionaires than most countries....they believe in spreading the wealth....as long as it’s USA wealth.
