Californians will vote next Tuesday on a series of budget-related propositions, and one thing is clear from new Rasmussen Reports telephone polling in the state: Voters arent in the mood for tax increases to ease Californias budget woes.
Seventy-three percent (73%) of California voters oppose raising state income taxes to eliminate the budget deficit. Raising the state sales tax is opposed by 69%.
At the same time, 69% favor major cuts in government spending to eliminate the budget deficit. Just 16% oppose the spending cuts.
There is strong support for one concept that will be on the ballot next week. Ninety percent (90%) of voters say legislators should not get a pay raise if they fail to pass a balanced budget. Just five percent (5%) disagree.
In fact, most California voters want to go even further. Seventy percent (70%) believe that if the legislators cant balance the budget, they should take a significant pay cut.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Even if the voters do endorse spending cuts, the politicians will find a way around it.
Bad memory?
I remember you were opposed to it ~ you saw through it ~ very wisely.
I’m sorry if that wasn’t clear. I applaud you for seeing it so clearly back then. I wish I had!
That's the spin they use. Reality is that the Feds will make Texas bail Kalifornia out.
So, you doubt the poll results about the coming votes? Will the people vote to raise taxes after all?
the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants
- Thomas Jefferson
We mailed our absentee ballots in and voted no for every left wing wet dream re taxing us, our sons and our grandkids more.
“Lets hope and pray that ALL these ballot measures fail, and fail big.”
Word is with the absentee ballots even in liberal areas, the tax frauds are going down heavily with 70-75% of us saying “Hell No!”
Shoot! That’s what I was gonna say! LOL!
Truly...are they finally waking up to reality out there
in the land of make believe???
That’s what bothers me. These same CA voters who now are responding to polls they don’t want taxes raised and they want a balanced budget keep electing the idiots who spend like there’s no tomorrow. Don’t the voters understand the connection between voting in a liberal spender and getting liberal spending? I guess it’s a direct result of their public school education. The teacher’s unions have produced a good result, voters who cannot think rationally.
My apologies for the confusion, b9. Thanks. :)
I have seen no one in any state government want to take this one.
Teachers, state workers, etc are costing states billions that are almost hard to fathom.
That will be the Government employees and dependents...
Actually, my theory is Conservatives read so they can THINK about an issue... while liberals don't need to read because they decide how they FEEL about an issue...
Let it be impressed on your mind that God commands you to choose for rulers just men who will rule in the fear of God [Exodus 18:21]. . . . If the citizens neglect their duty and place unprincipled men in office, the government will soon be corrupted . . . If our government fails to secure public prosperity and happiness, it must be because the citizens neglect the Divine commands, and elect bad men to make and administer the laws . Noah Webster, The History of the United States
The problem with the Californians leaving is that they are taking their stupid policies with them and ruining the states where they settle. Same thing is happening in the east with emigrating New Yorkers. The wreck their own states, and then move to wreck others.
Whats the definition of insanity again?
It should be illegal for any Californian to move into another state unless they can prove having not voted for Obama, Arnold, Pelosi, Newsom, in fact anyone in the San Fran government - the only exception to this should be Massachusetts where they’ll be right at home.
That’s what ACORN id for.
All new tax props will pass by 10 points.
Why are these people not in jail?
“Yet they keep voting for Democrats.”
And that’s the only vote that really matters to California officeholders. The initiative vote is just a way for voters to blow off steam, ignorable.
I sent in my absentee ballot voting NO against every proposition except for 1F (no salary increases for StateGov employees if running a deficit). The rest are bleeding-heart BS trying to make you think the Police and Firemen will be pretty much non-existent. Puhlease!
