Californians will vote next Tuesday on a series of budget-related propositions, and one thing is clear from new Rasmussen Reports telephone polling in the state: Voters arent in the mood for tax increases to ease Californias budget woes.
Seventy-three percent (73%) of California voters oppose raising state income taxes to eliminate the budget deficit. Raising the state sales tax is opposed by 69%.
At the same time, 69% favor major cuts in government spending to eliminate the budget deficit. Just 16% oppose the spending cuts.
There is strong support for one concept that will be on the ballot next week. Ninety percent (90%) of voters say legislators should not get a pay raise if they fail to pass a balanced budget. Just five percent (5%) disagree.
In fact, most California voters want to go even further. Seventy percent (70%) believe that if the legislators cant balance the budget, they should take a significant pay cut.

Amen to that!! But, never look for sanity from leftist voters.
Well - we'll see on Tuesday how much BS Rassmussen polling represents.
One of the stupidest things conservatives in this state ever did was get behind that recall effort. The focus should have remained on Davis and the Democrats who have controlled the legislature since practically forever. Instead, we have this pathetic pseudo Republican of a governor to deflect all blame on Republicans even though they have no power in this state.
Probably good to get your tea party contacts, and sentiments out to Vote NO (Call it your second,..or third “Boston/L.A. Tea Party”)!!..
In other words, you will pay Californians to continue living a life style that is beyond their means and retirement benefits et cetera that far exceed yours.
Enjoy.
Yeah, also surprising since the people scurrying out of the state like rats off a sinking ship are the more conservative people.
Also, Ron C, Why not “recall” your villiage idiots (Republicans and Democrats): EVERY one of thems should have recall efforts going against them, though it would be wise to keep the good conservatives!
Yeah I’ve been thinking about that: Here in INDIANA we don’t like this very much..
I am thinking about call my local Senator (State)..and asking them to sponsor legislation which will KEEP all funds that we as a State pay to Washington (either through the Feds “Taxing” our state-budgets, or I.R.S. income tax to be put into a special “escrow” account to collect and only give back to the Feds when they behave..(California $$bailouts are a=NO, NO): So in other words any federal income taxes that would be paid by Indiana Citizens would instead be paid into an escrow account that OUR State would controll, and given over to the IRS only if they behave by not bailing out failed states (Such as CA, MA, NY, NJ ect..)!! GOOD PLAN??..will it work..
Don't bet on the GOP doing anything intelligent.
If California did that we would have a budget surplus.
If I were ‘dictator for a day’ I would recall the right of idiots to vote. Maybe a written test, to determine if they understood founding principles, and whether they supported them. No voting for those who want to undermine those principles. Deportation for them - straight to Hugo Chavez or the Cuban ‘paradise.’
And Davis would have been term limited by now.
Easier test... Must speak English
Absolutely not. These are big blue states and the Democrats will kill to keep them from going down. (They will eventually, IMO, but that will be delayed a while with your money.)
I see nothing wrong with a basic civics test to determine eligibility to vote AND that test must ONLY be in English.
NOT IF I HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY ABOUT IT (though I am in Red State God Country!).
Be a naturally born citizen, not the progeny of an illegal alien - or the progenitor of an 'anchor baby.'
Yes if you and your fellow citizens can enforce it.
Wish it were so. It should be, but can you imagine the media if such a law were passed? They might suffer mass heart attacks!
Good luck...my sister lives in Carmel and my son lives in LA. (small world)
