Animal Legs for Humans

A Seattle designer has come up with the ultimate gadget for people who would like to be taller and more graceful - animal leg extensions.

Kim Graham's Digitigrade Leg Extensions add 14 inches of height to the wearer - and she claims a number of famously pint-sized actors and performers already have their names on the two-month waiting list.

The fine art sculptor says the steel extensions are much more than just stilts and insists: "They give a person the uncanny and graceful appearance of an animal."

They're made of steel, cable, foam, and rigid plastic - and, according to Ms Graham, take just 10 to 15 minutes to learn to walk in.

They apparently work well on level surfaces, although sharp inclines are difficult and stairs are downright risky.

The legs cost just £500 a pair - or £665 for spring loaded hooves for those requiring a little extra bounce.

Tom Daschle is not deeply saddened.

>> Oh, C’mon! A person would probably wear them for a day before their back starts giving them problems.

No, I hear they’re actually quite comfortable in all-day use if you order a model suitable to your body type and coordination abilities.

(For myself, I’d get the “snake” model.)

This has already been done by the Poweriser corporation. I've seen videos on Youtube and they look like fun; sort of a pair of pogo sticks you wear attached to each foot.

>> they seem to do it with ease

Yeah, and I never understood how. I figure if I ever managed to get upright on the things, the very next step would be falling in such a way as to knock all my teeth out. Pass!

You could be surprised. They need to put a video of some users walking and running in these things.
In any case, they look pretty cool.
(And they’re way cooler than a Segway...).

I guess the ears, scarf and fur coverings are optional extras. :)

Sorry. I’m not endorsing any kind of relationship with mythical creatures in any way.....

You could be right. For stilts, I think they are cool. For risers or grace, I’m not convinced they’re that great.

Now, as for the Segway comment. I know a lot of folks hate them. I’m going to have to admit that I think they’re very cool. Are they the super wave of the future, as envisioned by their marketing department, not hardly.

My older daughter watched the film, and when the girl just showed the metal legs she said she didn’t want them.

When the girl was shown with the fur ones, she said she would take them only if they were “furry with faun hooves”.

Now she thinks it would be cool to get two sets and a giant horse costume for she and her sister to stand in.

(we need to get out more)

Yeah, there was a TimeWarp episode recently where three guys were wearing Powerbocks that look just like the picture you posted. Those look way better than the stupid version with the hooves.

I’d like to try out a pair.

The way I see it, if you're liberal fascist, Segways and those weird two-wheel Segway cars are the transportation of the future in their “Eco-friendly Arcologies.”

Close enough for mythological use. ;^)
