Gingrich: Pelosi 'Lied,' 'Despicable,' 'Dishonest,' 'Vicious,' 'Trivial'
ABC ^ | May 15, 2009 | Elizabeth Turrell and Steven Portnoy

ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich today offered a blistering critique of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s handling of oversight on harsh interrogation tactics, in a major escalation of partisan attacks being aimed at Pelosi.

In an interview with ABC News Radio’s Marcus Wilson, Gingrich, R-Ga., said Pelosi, D-Calif., “has lied to the House” in claiming that she was never briefed by the CIA about the Bush administration’s use of waterboarding and other harsh tactics.

"I think she has lied to the House, and I think that the House has an absolute obligation to open an inquiry, and I hope there will be a resolution to investigate her. And I think this is a big deal. I don't think the Speaker of the House can lie to the country on national security matters,” Gingrich said.

He continued: "I think this is the most despicable, dishonest and vicious political effort I've seen in my lifetime."

"She is a trivial politician, viciously using partisanship for the narrowist of purposes, and she dishonors the Congress by her behavior."

"Speaker Pelosi's the big loser, because she either comes across as incompetent, or dishonest. Those are the only two defenses,” Gingrich said. “The fact is she either didn't do her job, or she did do her job and she's now afraid to tell the truth.”

"She is a trivial politician, viciously using partisanship for the narrowist of purposes, and she dishonors the Congress by her behavior."

That is the most apt description of Pelosi I have ever heard.

Pelosi will make a great poster child for retaking Congress.

Take a lesson from the democRats. Demonize her and run against her in every Congressional district in the country.

Put her picture in every campaign ad.

I think Obama gave the green light to his adoring MSM to go after Pelosi. No other way to explain why the MSM is giving it so much coverage.

I agree with your post. I would add to the list the fact that half the population of the USA are dumb as dirt. It helps having a gullible voter base.

Bubba Leroy’s right: we all should pray Nancy stays right where she is. She is starting to stink up the joint. We don’t have much of a chance with the Senate, but she will help us take back the House!

Let’s hope Newt is serious about throwing his hat in the ring for 2012.

Let's hope he's not. He wanders off the reservation too much to play kissy-face with the Clintons and others liberals. I'd vote for him over McCain, but not many other Republican presidential candidates.

What few people see here is that you have a proxy war going on. The Clintons see an opportunity to get one of their rivals out of the way so they send out Leon Panetta, one of Hillary's lackeys, to pour some gasoline on the fire.

There's only two ways this ends. 1) Pelosi agrees to some sort of concession that the Clintons want and gets to keep her job knowing she's owned or 2) The Clinton wing of the party and those in the media still loyal to them keep up the pressure until Pelosi is forced to resign.

If the Clinton wing had wanted this to die, it would have already been dead. The media wouldn't be trying to bury her without getting marching orders from someone higher up the Democrat food chain.

Newt engages with, and even works with, his opponents.
But he does so to advance his ideas, not to co-opt theirs.

That is what Republicans desperately need, instead of hiding from debate, or changing their positions to go along with the Democrats.
