I have an acquaintance that worked for the state. She actively pursued the job, because she wanted the pension. She kept telling me that twice the govenator had cut her salary. I asked if her paycheck was actually lower, she said know. What he really did was not give raises that she expected. I said to her, “No Matter, you are just there for the pension anyway.” And she agreed. She is now retired and collected her pension.

The problem is that these layoffs involve the most junior employees who in many cases were hired because there is a giant pile of senior deadwood in most agencies that won't do any useful work but can't be fired because of the !&%#$?@! unions. Some of the junior people are go-getters that are excellent at getting the job done.

Even though in many cases I would disagree that that particular job needs to be done at all, it sure makes no sense laying off good junior workers while paying way bigger salaries to the old deadwood to just sit there. The most some of that deadwood scum will do is spend their days explaining why they are too busy to take an actual assignment.

A Governor with any brass at all should target the government employees union and expose the theft of tax money that occurs daily due to 20% of California government employees not doing a lick of useful work.

That's ALL?!?! That's like stepping on the scale after you trim a hangnail to see if you lost any weight.

The Department of Corrections alone has 50,000 employees, and that's just one department. Department of C-hild S'port has over 10,000 employees. The DMV alone at any given moment (M-F, between 9-5 Pacific Standard Time) has about 5,000 people standing behind the counter doing a whole lot of nothing.

Not to mention all the non-profit associations these departments pay dues to have their directors & attorneys belong to...
