Steph: Cheney ‘Getting Traction’ With Obama Admin
FinkelBlog ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Well, well, well. So the man liberals love to hate . . . might just be right. George Stephanopoulos has acknowledged that Dick Cheney’s national security arguments “have started to get some traction” with the Obama administration.

The This Week host made his admission to Robin Roberts on today’s Good Morning America. He did so in the course of explaining Pres. Obama’s photo flip-flop. After promising to release photos of enhanced interrogations, PBO suddenly announced yesterday that his administration would seek to block their release.

It has always been my theory that Bill Clinton lost the House because he praised Richard Nixon at his funeral. It sent the message that if Clinton, a liberal, could praise Nixon - what was the point in opposing conservatives or voting for democrats.

Likewise, Obama has just shown that all the “principled” left wing bullcrap he spouted a week ago was just that. So why should liberals devoutly support him, and why should conservatives doubt themselves any longer?

The above applies to not all but a percentage, perhaps the “mushy middle” that comprises some of the right and left.

..the Left is driven by an image--symposium over substance--...Never doubt, a single photo of Bush or Cheney will drive a lefty over the edge, thus keeping them solidly behind Obama's radical agenda. ...We need to present a 'new' picture to the Left. ...the only thing Cheney can accomplish for the Right is to keep the fence-sitters on the Left in the Left's court.

Do you not see the fundamental flaws in your argument? Appealing to the left. Trying not to push those already on the left to the left.

The left was blindly behind Obama's agenda BEFORE Cheney started speaking out. Before that, it was the Obama administration (along with the far left) that had been continually reminding people of Bush and Cheney-the demonized versions they created, not the actual Bush and Cheney.

The battle for public opinion has always been about middle-America, not the left. Alowing the left to keep floating the demonized version of Cheney without rebuttal has worked to move middle-America to the left.

Cheney's appearances have brought middle-Americans back to the middle, when they realize he isn't the demon the left makes him out to be. Rather, when it comes to national defense, he comes across as thoughtfull and intelligent.

Let them make Cheney the face of the right, Cheney gets whitewashed for 8 years as Satan because he hung out largely in the back ground and they could attack him at will without response. Let him respond, he’ll shred his attackers just like he did Breck Girl.

He’s the only adult left in the GOP it seems, let them continue to try to paint him as Satan, now that his muzzle is off, he’ll quickly prove to most american’s he has more experience knowledge and ability in his little finger than Teleprompter Turd and his bunch have collectively.

The way to end the nonsense that is the crap being spewed by the left and the dems is to SIMPLY SPEAK TRUTH TO IT, LOUDLY and CONSISTENTLY. The Republican party as a whole should be doing this, not just Cheney, but if Cheney is the only one willing to do it, let him do it, and continue doing it. Hopefully some of the milk toasts sitting ont he sidelines will follow his example and find a backbone.

I hope Mr. Cheney keeps right on talking!

I am growing to admire him more by the day. The Rinos would be wise to see who is getting traction...who is making an impact.

The GOP doesn’t need traction so soon after the election. Obama’s idiotic economic policies will provided them, increasing each and every day. Meanwhile, Cheney has Obama tied in knots, and has outed him.

Cheney saw that no one in the GOP has any Brass B***** to say anything about Barry. Dick has dealt with terrorist and Democrats. Too bad when he left Office no one in GOP has done anything to protect America.

“I hope you are more right than I am....”

I am. One of the things Cheney can do that few other Republicans seem capable of is going on the “mainstream” Sunday morning talks shows and not only holding his own, but dominating the show.

We need to present a ‘new’ picture to the Left. Who that will be will be defined in time.

Yes, and the second this “new picture” person emerges he/she will become a target of the same old leftist demonization techniques, so we will be right back at the start. And certain parties will be recommending throwing that person under the bus.

How long exactly did it take the leftist demonization machine to work on Sarah Palin before certain left-wing-appeasement-minded people were saying, "That's enough, she's damaged goods."? Two months? A month? A week?

You can forget ever getting a conservative whom the leftists will not demonize. Trying to find one is an exercise in futility. Either stand behind those willing to be our leaders, or expect not to have any leaders.

AGreed. Seems that the GOP has become a paler version of the DNC. It is sad.

I didn’t see your negative Cheney comments from yesterday, so I admittedly don’t know the context in which they were said; therefore my comments are to everyone.

I’m personally delighted by the fact that he’s suddenly out there so much. I wish [a perfectly healthy] Cheney had run for president. I see nothing wrong with him being the most recent face of the GOP and here’s why - he’s strong, principled, and a ton more conservative than anyone else.

It doesn’t matter what the left thinks of him, or makes him out to be - they will demonize ANYONE that they perceive as a threat. Look what they did/continue to do to Palin - should we reject her conservativism just because the left does everything they can to vilify her?

They’re going to do that no matter what, and just because they say he’s a big business evil war mongerer doesn’t make it true. Cheney is perfectly capable of defending himself and his country, as he is proving quite adequately these days, and shushing him only caters to the left’s tactic of claiming the better message by destroying our message bearers.

RE :”I can’t even remember a president reversing himself in such short order. It’s pathetic.

This is brilliant politically for him because he makes believe he wants to give into the left, then he changes his position at the last minute after others objections. Look at the three fractions reactions:

1) Conservatives : 'praise '(I am not impressed either)
2) the public :' adoration of how presidential he looks'
3) the left: 'upset he gave into evil imperialist republicans who want to shred our liberal constitution'

And the man is even more loved and adored.

Well, right now, Dick Cheney is what we have. He's stepping up and taking Obama on for the whole country (right and left). He knows what the stakes are.

God bless, Dick Cheney! Keep fighting, Mr. Vice President.

There is NO DOUBT that Cheney had an effect and is the reason why the scoundrel backtracked. Cheney so skillfully stated the incompetence of 0bama’s policies and hit back on their attacks on the Bush administration which has a sterling record in regards to having kept this country safe from attack and our enemies KNOWING they would face consequences. Cheney has shone a spotlight on something people have remained ignorant about and it cannot help but be concerning when they learn about it. There is more to come and Cheney is one who will not be intimidated so they picked the wrong fight and I can see Cheney being a powerful voice against these tyrants.

He is failing at much more than this photo release. The beauty about Cheney’s speaking out is that it has drawn attention to these horrid radical policies and we are facing serious challenges and 0bama has shown weakness and it will be acknowledged when the foreign crises start to act up within the yr. He’s going to be a colossal failure on all fronts. He cannot help but be with what he’s already done and what he’s about to.

Cheney is kicking butt. Let him continue and take no counsel of your fears.

Nice paraphrase of Patton the Elder; I've always tried to remember it when things go wobbly, but it's hard to do.

The difference between Cheney, and Palin is that Sarah is our future. We need her out front if she is to become a player in 2012. We need her on the Sunday morning shows espousing conservatism and how it fits with the future of America. We need conservatism packaged in a 'hot' package just as the Left presented Obama.

I see Cheney playing defense for the Bush admin, and agree or not, that picture has already been set in stone on the Left. Obviously, the MSM loves Cheney out front because it plays to their agenda, and they are loving every moment of rehashing the last eight years. Cheney is the past. Any image of him serves the Lefts agenda, and the sooner the Right figures this out the better we will be.
