Rockstar energy drink founder and CEO Russell Weiner - son of Michael Weiner, aka Bay Area-based, nationally broadcast conservative talk radio talk host Michael Savage - on Monday made a $25,000 contribution to San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom's 2010 gubernatorial campaign.
Yes, the son of Michael Savage, who just last October was saying Newsom is "in love again with the gay mafia" and "a whack-job as a mayor - 'Any-twosome' Newsom." Y’know, Savage — the guy the Brits don’t care to have around.
Is this a case of the apple falling far from the tree? It's not as if the junior Weiner has been some raging liberal: He ran for the state Assembly in 1998 as a Republican, touting the fact that he with his dad had founded the conservative Paul Revere Society (later stripped of its nonprofit status, and now redirecting Web browsers directly to Savage's site.)
So what's the deal?
"We're personal friends, went to the same high school at different times,” Weiner told me a short while ago. “And he's a businessman, I'm a businessman, so I hope he'll be good for the business community if he's governor."
I know Savage mentioned the other day that some of his relatives are very jealous of him and they are no longer on speaking terms, wonder who that might be.
Savage’s playing the political game for business purpose is a non-issue. Now if Savage’s dog Teddy shows up on the donor list, that’s another matter.
Geez, the kid is a fool if he thinks newsom will be a friend to business. I always said those energy drinks had to be bad for ya.

My mom (may she rest in peace) kept me out of the doctor’s office and dentist’s chair with the nutrition information that emerged in the late 60s and early 70s. Savage’s nutrition books are right on the money and still true today. But the pharma greed mongers would prefer you not know about these inexpensive ways to keep healthy.
I often wish my mom were here today to advise me and my family.
Before you drive-by-slime me, no, I don’t agree with everything Savage says. But I have to say he is the most honest and passionate voice in radio today! Certainly more that the “waterboys” who have been supporting the GOP no matter what, because they want to be invited to the best parties with the best cigars.

I like the way you and your ilk like to promote the idea that the majority of Freepers think just like you in regards to Savage without any evidence to back it up, I guess being #3 in the nation is due to the millions of DNC liberals that listen to him.

However, if you look at the Mark Levin or Rush Limbaugh thread, you will see dozens of people at a minimum posting every day, even when some lousy guest host is filling in.
Just because I object to the UK banning him doesn't mean that I will start liking the guy. How can you like a guy who constantly insults you, and your ideological brothers? If they banned Al Franken, I would think the same way.

The number of posters only tell me that if Savage promoted FreeRepublic the way Levin and Limbaugh have, his thread numbers would be right there with Levin and Limbaugh.
