Made in His Image: Beauty in Motion

by Randy J. Guliuzza, P.E., M.D.*

Humans possess a phenomenal ability to roll, twist, spin, jump, twirl, flip, run, leap, and lunge, as a single motion or in complex combinations, in bare feet or with slippers, shoes, skates, skis, boards or rollers, forwards or backwards, on one leg or with two, or simply to balance motionless on one arm or tiptoe on the top of a champagne bottle. Ballerinas, gymnasts, and ice skaters depend on their bodies' ability to not only balance, but also to sense speed of rotation and body position, and then make just the right body adjustments. How does all of this work together?...

Yet another one of God’s amazing creatures. Although, it’s pretty clear that God’s human creations have them beat when it comes to versatility.

Just think what cats could do, endowed with those extra vertebrae and all, if we could just make them want to show off.
They so lack ambition.

But they are not endowed with extra vertebrae, nor can they process the information required to pull off what humans do, otherwise they would be doing it!

But they are not endowed with extra vertebrae,

Well, go correct wikipedia while you're at it because they agree with me...

nor can they process the information required to pull off what humans do,

never said they did!

otherwise they would be doing it!

I can process information just fine, but lack ambition and incentive. Likewise cat, if it could, might still not perform.

And you are taking this waaaay too seriously!

Sometimes you have to pass through knowing to get to understanding:

Let's do that with everything. Learning is overrated.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding (Proverbs 9:10).

We’re “passing through” knowledge and going straight to understanding.

I wasn’t suggesting we do that with automotive maintenance, just with the subject of this thread. (Just as I wouldn’t suggest that you take you Chevy to a priest for a tuneup - or ask the boys in the advanced shop class to explain the transcendental nature of Phi.)

By the way, did you actually watch the video all the way through?

Why do you suggest we do it with one, but not the other?

I can't watch the video right now, I don't have any media player installed on this computer.
