Limbaugh avoids Sykes catfight
The Washington Times ^ | May 11, 2009 | Joseph Weber

Posted on 05/11/2009 4:05:08 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh took the high road Monday following Wanda Sykes saying he is a terrorist and making other acerbic comments about him during a comedic routine at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner over the weekend.

Talk-radio fans and political junkies buzzed in anticipation about what Mr. Limbaugh might say on his national, three-hour radio show.

Instead of retaliating against Ms. Sykes, Mr. Limbaugh spent much of the show praising former Vice President Dick Cheney, who on Sunday was much kinder.

"What motivates Dick Cheney," Mr. Limbaugh asked rhetorically numerous times during his show. "He has all the millions he needs. He doesn't want to run for election. He's not hot for interns. He is not a torture freak."

Mr. Limbaugh eventually said Mr. Cheney continues to open himself to attacks by the liberal "drive-by media" because he is an American who speaks from his heart.

Mr. Cheney said Sunday on "Face the Nation" that Limbaugh is more representative of the Republican Party than former Secretary of State Colin Powell, whom he presumed left the party when supporting Barack Obama in the presidential race.

Ms. Sykes' comments about Mr. Limbaugh while hosting the annual Washington event Saturday night drew a mix of laughter and boos.

"Rush Limbaugh said he hopes this administration fails," Ms. Sykes said. "He just wants the country to fail. To me, that's treason. He's not saying anything different than what Osama bin Laden is saying. You might want to look into this, sir, because I think Rush Limbaugh was the 20th hijacker. But he was just so strung out on OxyContin, he missed his flight. … Rush Limbaugh, 'I hope the country fails,' I hope his kidneys fail, how about that? He needs a good waterboarding, that's what he needs."

You almost have to wonder, what does someone with a weekly audience of 25,000,000 have to gain by addressing someone who isn’t recognized by 22,000,000 of his audience?

Good for Rush!

The biggest insult he can give to her is acting indifferent.

IOW's She's not that important that we should care what she says.

LOL. How true.

Never had heard of her before, and hope I never do so again.

Dick Cheney has always been a decent man and strong conservative. And he's always the smartest guy in the room.

Cheney is doing what Bush couldn't do in eight years and now refuses to do, what the Republican congressional "leadership" is too scared to do - he's taking the liberals head on and articulating the principles he followed and we still need to follow to win the war on terror. God bless him.

I would agree. Except that Rush goes after some other nobody’s who take aim at him - the forehead, Chrissy Mathews, etc.

WELL WORTH REPEATING!

Quite true! George W. Bush considered it “ungentlemanly” to attack the commie liberals, and most of the GOP “leadership” doesn’t have any balls. We are lucky to have a man like Dick Cheney - a true patriot. How I wish he would run for President in 2012 and send the Muslim Marxist back to Chicago!

The same can be said of Rush.

God bless both of them for continuing to stick their necks out, and tell the truth.

Rush did the same thing to Al Franken when Franken's book came out. Never mentioned Franken, never mentioned his book, which means the liberals didn't get the pleasure of watching him get upset and Franken's book promptly went into the Kmart discount bin.

I think when it comes to celebrities who criticize him, Rush pretty much ignores them unless they're a part of the political process somehow (like Meghan McCain is kind of because she's the daughter of McCain).

Limbaugh not lowering himself to her level is commendable.

0be skipped the Gridiron Dinner but went to the latest one. What’s up with that? The whole DC dinner circuit is fairly irreverent. That Rush skips it is a good strategery.

Cheney was obviously the adult in the Federal Government for the last couple of decades.

That's different though. They're part of the Beltway. People like Sykes are just celebrities mouthing off. In all my years of listening to Rush, I haven't heard them really go after specific celebrities, although he'll talk about them in general.

She’s probably mad too. I’m sure she wanted some publicity about how she’s being “persecuted” by Rush Limbaugh.

Conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh took the high road Monday

I guess when you are Limbaugh wussing out can be called "taking the high road."

He is no better than you or I.

Worship of Limbaugh is a proclamation of inferiority.

(like Meghan McCain is kind of because she's the daughter of McCain).

Meghan McCain a real pain at D.C. dinner

Snippets: Political blogger Meghan McCain isn’t exactly the toast of D.C. right now.

“The security guard sent her to talk to someone to sort out the situation, but Meghan got bratty and nastily told him, ‘We’ll just stand here then,’ like an insolent child,” our source said, adding that after dealing with the guard, “She muttered to her friends, ‘Does he even know who the f--- I am?’ ”

I don’t think any of us “worship” Rush... respect and admire, yes.. follow and listen, yes.

I thought it was interesting that he ignored her. Good for him. The higher form of insult in this case is just to go on as usual because she just doesn’t matter.

Her comments weren’t really all that well received, and she’d probably get more mileage out of his response to her than anything else. As it is, her comments sorta fell flat. It just wasn’t funny.
