Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger painted a bleak picture today of whats to come should budget-related state ballot measures fail next week.
Fire stations will close, prisons will be forced to release inmates, schools will lay off more than 50,000 teachers, schools will be shut down for several weeks, and the state will have to borrow from local governments, Schwarzenegger warned.

Too bad. Vote no on all props. We all do more with less. It’s your turn.
So is the ignorant POS they call Governor.
Spend less. You either choose to, or you eventually have to.
And, eventually, we will have to stop subsidizing illegals and those who don’t pay their fair share.
More people in the cart than pulling it.
There is nothing they can cut that will adversely affect me (they don’t dare cut cops or fire). Now I am glad to be here while the BOO HOO ing starts.
Will other elected officials take keen notice and adjust fiscal policies ASAP
Money is always finite.
It will get a lot worse when companies move out of the state due to taxes. Let the illegals pay the taxes.
Both morally and finacially.
And by those who don’t pay their fair share, I mean those who pay zero (or less).
Defines what libs running a state into the ground means. Is the USA next?
I got it let’s sell California to Mexico!!!!
Between now and election day the world will be ending.
Happens every time they take more money.
God forbid you ever lay off a CRUMMY “Union Worker” or Government Employee! Join the rest of the workforce that has no job security and see how it feels....you do NOT have my sympathy!
You could save BILLIONS by laying off “dead wood” government officials and corrupt money hungry unions...SCUM!
California, you’re all NUTJOBS!
They love to shut down some local library or fire house that is hardly costing a thing to justify more taxes while ignoring the real elephant in the room... costs to house, educate and medicate illegal aliens, as well as to pay for the union employees that administer same programs.
NO MORE $$. The voters are fed up with you and that collection of corrupt clowns in Sacramento laughingly referred to as the Legislature.
We're prepared to let it crash. The sooner, the better.
If we accept the stimulus money, the 36 month cap on welfare benefits must be withdrawn. That means we will have to pay them for an unlimited time - the return of the permanent generational welfare class. I think we should look carefully at the other stimulus conditions. If it means that these types of social expenses become sacrosanct, then the money we receive may not be worth the hands we tie on cutting the budget.
That’s right, there are no middle tier or executive fat in California.... no patronage jobs to cut, no frivilous expenditures to end, no revision to legal codes to cut back on wasteful needless spending to meet some stupid regulatory or statutory requirements... Nope, none of that at all.. just Cops, Jails, Firefighters and Teachers to let go.
CA is bankrupt and has been for well over a decade, long past time it collapsed. Amazing, no money in the till, but lets make sure we indoctrinate little kindergardeners that fruits and dykes and their mental illnesses are just as normal as everyone else.
What, the Treasury Department refuses to credit CA with billions of made-up-out-of-thin-air electronic bleeps we call “money”?
California must learn how to spend less. Period. End of story.
I still see a line of buses every morning at the local elementary school. We are spending millions to bus hispanic kids from across town to this school..and millions more on special ed to teach them english and handle their development problems. It is a waste of money..they should be schooled in their own neighborhood. It does no good to haul them here and waste money that could be spent on education.
