Former and perhaps future Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney wants to make one thing clear, hes not sniping at Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, another likely presidential candidate.
Earlier this month when Romney and Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va., were interviewed on CNN, they were asked about radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh and Palins inclusion in Time magazines list of the 100 most influential people.
Romney quipped, Was that the issue on the most beautiful people or the most influential people? I'm not sure. If it's the most beautiful, I understand. We're not real cute.
Some pundits took that as a swipe against Palin.

"And what does he really think about Palin? Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh are two of the most influential voices in our party and thank heavens for that, Romney told Ingraham. Sarah Palin brought a lot of excitement and interest and energy and Im sure a lot of people to our party. She plays an important role in our party.Hey Al, I love the smell of squirming in the morning!

Funny how his statement of not mocking Palin ends up mocking his own self.
Priceless!

I like Sarah Palin, although not more than many other possible Pub candidates. I will wait and see who runs next time before making my choice. However, I am starting to get a bad vibe here on FR in that I see a similarity in the Cult of Obama with what now appears to be a Cult of Palin. She’s a human being, not a goddess that is going to save usa all. Come back down to earth, Palin worshippers. I can’t stand the Cult of Obama, and I don’t want to start disliking Palin merely because I can’t stand the cult that is forming around her.

I agree with you that Romney was not putting down Sarah at all. It is the usual MSM spin of pitting one against another. I accept his statement above.

The question was phrased as being only two Republicans oout of 100 on the list of most influential people. Mitt responded tht we're not all that cute which I think was meant a a shot to the Hollywood crowd and such. He should watch the Foxnews anchorbabes more but that was how I saw it.

Spoiler, carpetbagger Mitt "I walk with the NRA and MLK -Myth" Romney:
"Poor sports are people, too."
"Peeking Out From the McCain Wreckage: Mitt Romney"
"Someone's got to say it: IS MITT ROMNEY RESPONSIBLE FOR OBAMA'S VICTORY?"
"Vanity: Team Romney Sabotaged Palin and Continuing to Do So?"
"Romney Supporters Trashing Palin"
"Romney advisors sniping at Palin?"
Poor sport spoiler Romney attacks other GOP candidatesn:
Novak: "Fred Thompson drop-out rumors traced to Romney campaign"
Said Novak: "The rumors were traced in part to Mitt Romney's campaign,
trying to stir up strife between McCain and Thompson."
"Despite outspending his rivals by huge margins throughout the primaries,
(Mitt Romney, Carpetbagger UT,CA,MA,NH,Mexico) lost Iowa, South Carolina, Florida and California.
The only primaries he won were in Michigan, where Dad was governor; LDS states;
and a few states on Super Tuesday in which his California-obsessed rivals
couldn't spare the cash to advertise.
Only John Connolly in 1968 had a worse cash-to-delegates ratio.
And John McCain rightly did not like Romney's tactics during the primaries.
(W)hen (Romney's early leads) started slipping away, he resorted to unfair,
distorted, scorched-earth negative ads, betting that his opponents couldn't
afford to spend enough for the truth to catch up to his charges."

He's right. That's left for his proxies and astroturfers.

Romney also snipes (through his servants, too?) at the military.
Compare Romney's hatred to say, Gov. Palin.
"Governor Orders POW/MIA Flags Flown for Former Prisoners of War Recognition Day"
"Office of the Governor of the State of Alaska ^ | 04-09-09 | Gov. Sarah Palin
April 9, 2009, Juneau, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin today signed a proclamation declaring April 9, 2009,
as Former Prisoners of War Recognition Day. The governor has ordered POW/MIA flags
to be flown in honor and memory of American men and women
who have placed themselves in harms way and faced the horrors of combat."
The price paid by POW/MIA soldiers in defense of liberty is worthy of our highest
gratitude and most solemn remembrance, Governor Palin said.
On this day and always, they are in our thoughts and prayers. We will never forget them or their service.
versus
"National Guard Lt. Anthony Circosta poses in his backyard in Agawam, Mass., on June 9, 2007.
At left, his wife Danielle and daughter Kylie, 2, talk near the swing set. Circosta,
a decorated Iraq War veteran, seemed like an ideal candidate for a pardon from
then-Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for the 29-year-old's boyhood conviction
for a BB gun shooting. Romney denied the pardon,
twice, despite the recommendation of the Governor's Council."

I disagree on Romney. With all the attention corporate CEOs salaries were getting, his own personal fortune would have all the media talked about. Every person laid off at a company he turned around would have been interviewed.
I would have voted for him, but he would have fared worse than McCain I fear
