President Obama “was shocked by the news of this incident,” the White House press secretary, Robert Gibbs, said Monday. The president is set to receive a briefing on the shooting during an afternoon meeting with Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates.

“He’s saddened to hear the news from Camp Victory,” Mr. Gibbs told reporters at the White House. “His heart goes out to all the families.”

Camp Victory was renamed to Camp Liberty some time back.

Actually, Victory is now Victory Base Camp and encompasses many camps in the western Baghdad/airport area.

Camp Liberty was called Victory North in the old days and got its current name in late 2004.

So, Camp Victory still very much exists and Camp Liberty is part of it.

We just tend to call the whole area "BIAP." (Baghdad International Airport.)

I'm gonna try to be there. Going to visit my sis in England for a couple of weeks in August and then plan to come home late in the year.

Its going to be a long night for many families. I’m not sure how I would take the news knowing my son was killed in a combat zone by one of his own.

Rest in peace Spec4 Bingaman, 588th Signal, Quang Tri 1969 murdered in Quang Tri, by an American serviceman ( I will not name which branch),who threw a grenade into a line of of soldiers leaving a large tent in which some special entertainment had just ended.
Reason?....because the show was packed with troopers, the murderer was denied entry. He waited until the show was over and the audience was leaving, then heaved the granade.

I had to inventory Bingaman’s footlocker....where most of us had a torn page from Playboy scotch taped to the bottom of the lid, my eyes began to weep when I saw that Bingaman had taped an ad for a 1968 red Mustang convertible. He had planned to re-up and purchase his dream car with the bonus.
I'm upset.

Where Eric was it was called Victory in 2003, and is Liberty now.......but as you know, he wasn’t there in 2008 - he was right next to YOU! :)
