Lawmakers Trade Blows Over Obama's Plan to Close Guantanamo Prison

U.S. lawmakers traded jabs Saturday over President Obama's plan to close the Guantanamo detention center, with Republicans calling the plan "dangerous" and Democrats saying it would restore America's moral standing in the world.

Obama has pledged to close the detention center for terrorist suspects by January, but the White House has yet to say where the 241 detainees will be sent.

Sen. Kit Bond of Missouri, delivering the Republicans' weekly radio and Internet address, said Saturday that Obama's plan "is a dangerous case of putting symbolism over security," and he called on the president to disclose where the terrorists held at Guantanamo Bay will be sent.

"The American people have a right to know exactly what the White House plans to do with these terrorists," said Bond, the ranking Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee. "Americans don't want these terrorists in their neighborhood."

Rep. Pete King, R-N.Y., told FOX News that Obama should keep the prison open.

"These are very dangerous people," he said. "I think the president is caving into world opinion and he's attempting to fulfill a campaign pledge without having any real idea what the consequences are or where these detainees are going to go."

Many U.S. soldiers lost their lives or were wounded in the effort to capture the Gitmo terrorists. Now Obama is setting them loose so they can threaten us again, and more U.S. soldiers will get killed or wounded trying to re-capture them.

Perhaps it is time for young Americans to stop volunteering for military service, since they may risk their lives in vain. Even if they make it home as "veterans", Obama and his Secretary of Homeland Security Napolitano have announced that veterans cannot be trusted. Returning veterans are security risks, suspects to be watched, according to Obama.

And while Obama is weakening our defense against terrorists, the Taliban are threatening to take over Pakistan, a country which has nuclear weapons. What is Obama doing to defeat the terrorists in Pakistan right now, to prevent them from getting nuclear weapons? My guess is this: Nothing.

Political quote of the day:

257 days until the deadline is reached. America needs to know where Camp Unicorn will be located.

The title is misleading. I was hoping they actually threw a few blows. LOL I would have respected them more if they had shown some real courage. Of course, they are such spineless wimps that's never going to happen.

Moral standing and the word DemocRAT should never be used together. He wants the US taxpayer to pay for abortions in DC — what is next the other 56 states?

The terrorists with an (R) behind their name are off to reeducation camp, those who tote a (D) behind their name get relocated with benefits.

What's so difficult to figure?

Democrats saying it would restore America's moral standing in the world.

And why was our "Moral Standing Damaged in the first place? -Because the DEMS howled from the rooftops about the (non-existent) injustices of Guantanamo Bay...

Well, our soldiers have been “trading blows” while our Congressmorons flap their jaws. Our soldiers are dying without being respected by our government, which is a rerun of what happened in Vietnam. It is immoral to send men to a war unless we intend to win the war (against Islamism in this case).

As I said before: “Many U.S. soldiers lost their lives or were wounded in the effort to capture the Gitmo terrorists. Now Obama is setting them loose so they can threaten us again, and more U.S. soldiers will get killed or wounded trying to re-capture them.”

Obama doesn’t want to tell people what he is doing because he is winging it.
No clue to national security. No experience.
All he has is Clintons failed people to guide him in his quest to appease his party in denile about the threat of terrorism.

I recall the Demo-Socialists saying Bush was using the war on terror to scare people. Biden thought Iraq should be divided into thee parts based on religion and ethnicity. Separate but equal, I suppose. Biden said the surge in Iraq would be a total failure. He must be disappointed now.

Obama has stated that he will abandon Iraq -— rather than keeping some troops there to maintain security. Why we need troops in Germany, South Korea and Afghanistan, but not Iraq, is beyond comprehension. The Taliban and other terrorist groups are threatening to seize control of Pakistan, which has nuclear weapons. What is Obama doing about that? Nada, zilch.

Another 9/11 or worse is inevitable with Obama as acting CIC.

>>Another 9/11 or worse is inevitable with Obama as acting CIC.<<

No doubt in my mind, we are in for a very rude awakening. I just wonder how all the people who screamed “fear monger” will react when that day comes? A sad day to say “I told you so”

>>Why we need troops in Germany, South Korea and Afghanistan, but not Iraq, is beyond comprehension.<<

This is the Obama policy in a nutshell. He has no clue what he is doing. he is just pandering to his base to make them happy. Imagine making political decisions of such a magnitude to make people running around wearing pink pajamas, hats, scarfs chanting and encouraging death to American troops happy?
