CNN's New "Wingnut" Segment Hits Left and Right
CNN ^ | May 8, 2009

Much has been made of the "middle" role CNN has taken in the cable news landscape. The position was made evident today in a new segment on American Morning. CNN contributor John Avlon (author of "Independent Nation") will name two people "wingnuts" each week — one from the left and one from the right. This week's picks: Cynthia McKinney and Michele Bachman.

He explained in a blog post on CNN.com. "It builds on a simple premise — the far-right and the far-left are equally insane," he wrote. "What's a Wingnut? It's someone on the far-right wing or far-left wing of American politics — the professional partisans and the unhinged activists — the folks who always try to divide rather than unite."

How do you balance this? There are 567,893+ nuts on the left and 8- on the right.

They just keep moving the middle. Bachman would be what?

A Constitutional Moderate to the Founders.

Here’s how this works... Mainstream conservatives (Bachmann, Palin, Rush, et al) will be marginalized, compared with leftwing commies. While the liberals skate as centrists.

Move along...

CNN must be worried voters might correctly judge Obama to be the leftwing extremist he is, so they’re hoping to inform us on what a left-wing “wing-nut” doesn’t look like.

... and BTW how long does it take for a comment to be posted on this board? I posted one awhile back describing Obama’s voting record as the most left-wing in the senate and it hasn’t turned up yet.

Absolutely!

Here’s the test: What has Cynthia McKinney said that can be proven demonstrably false?

What has Michele Bachman said that can be proven demonstrably false?

Now. Measure the distance (as in the Obama Approval Polls) and you’ll find McKinney is a psycho-nut and Bachman is right on point.

False premise.
Certainly there is no obvious reason why it must be so.

CNN claims to be staking out a position in the center. But then, moderation is a virtue - and to claim virtue for one's own self is arrogant. And, irony of ironies, immoderate.

Flipping through the channels earlier today I heard two CNN people talking about ACORN and was shocked that they seemed to be condemning ACORN for voter fraud.

Did hell freeze over?

Right - show format: ever episode features a real life leftist lunatic versus anyone who opposes Obama’s policies.

Avlon is a complete fraud. He is on the left but claims to be “the” spokesman for the independent middle.

BTW, he is engaged to Margaret Hoover, another squishy “moderate” Republican air-head whom I can’t stand.

Bachman is an attractive conservative voice, but she has had her share of gaffes. Just last week she blamed a tariff law passed by FDR for causing the depression. It was actually passed by Hoover and the depression started in 1929 was why FDR got elected in 1932. That is not the only time she has put her foot in her mouth, but she is entertaining.

Such garbles get you promoted on the left. I suggest that based on VP Biden's experience Michelle should be President of the Federation of Planets.

That qualifies her for the White House. After all, Obama thinks there are 57 states and the VP believes FDR used to have pressers on TV.

Once again people are giving him too much credit. He said he had visited 57 states with one left to go. Alaska ironically.

This disgusting RINO is dead wrong. Wingnuts are on the right and moonbats are on the left. Seems everyone knows that but him. An attempt to skewer the right, paint himself as a holy centrist, and muddy the vocabulary.

This is a dangerous game for CNN to be playing. A true match up could only make leftists look insane, vicious and drug addled.

I’m sure this is the pattern that will be followed from here on out. A mainstream (elected) conservative paired against some wackjob who couldn’t get elected anywhere. And I can tell you right now that Zero will never once be considered for the (dis)honor.

Yep, but that’s the whole point right? To compare the inexplicable and indefensible (McKinney) with a targeted Republican whom we wish to discredit. Same old sh*t.

Yes, you nailed it...This is how the ‘new’ centrist position of cnn will play out. Anytime they elaborate on a left-wing-nutcase, they will compare and contrast them with with a decent conservative, thereby furthering their leftest bias...sneaky huh....
