CNN's New "Wingnut" Segment Hits Left and Right
CNN ^ | May 8, 2009

Posted on 05/08/2009 3:46:17 PM PDT by rightwingintelligentsia

Much has been made of the "middle" role CNN has taken in the cable news landscape. The position was made evident today in a new segment on American Morning. CNN contributor John Avlon (author of "Independent Nation") will name two people "wingnuts" each week — one from the left and one from the right. This week's picks: Cynthia McKinney and Michele Bachman.

He explained in a blog post on CNN.com. "It builds on a simple premise — the far-right and the far-left are equally insane," he wrote. "What's a Wingnut? It's someone on the far-right wing or far-left wing of American politics — the professional partisans and the unhinged activists — the folks who always try to divide rather than unite."

Cynthia McKinney?

She’s not a wingnut, she’s just plain INSANE.

Pathetic.

They are grasping for straws.

They hear their own death knell, and they know it.

Dinosaurs. All of them. Worthy of pity, let alone ridicule.

If CNN manages to brand itself as centrist I’m going to puke. Someone needs to create a really far-right network so that FOX can claim the middle ground.

Next week: Nancy Pelosi and David Duke.

Nancy isn't far enough left for Duke. He was a Sheehan supporter. (Yeah I'm serious)

False premise.

I don’t know how people get away with not being sued. You know, mental illness isn’t funny. Many of us may have people we know who actually have mental illness. Many people with mental illness are terrific contributors to society.

What gives anyone...Garofalo, CNN...etc...the right to just throw this “insane” thing around?

I think that PC only applies when a person of conservative mind makes a statement that offends someone on the left.

So how did they choose to call people “wingnuts” versus “moonbats”?

When the smarmy, snarky, daughter of a convicted Democrat criminal hosts a show with a “No Bias, No Bull” segment on CNN, I am not impressed with their “middle road” nor their opinions of what constuitutes extreme right or extreme left.

Michelle Bachman being linked with Cynthia McKinney c’mon. How stupid do yo think we are? Teh Dem is a dead isue the other one faces a tough race. Is this a serious look at things or is this just a way of smearing Republicans who can be defeated by linking them lib nut cakes (Oh, I mean progressive nut cakes being linked with right wing nut cakes)

Why didn't CNN have this segment when President Bush was in office???

Because they presented the moonbats with credibility EVERY DAY!

Now suddenly they are insane?

That’s a good point. That’s probably their angle—pick a good conservative sitting Republican and pair with a demonstrably kooky Dem who’s been out of office for a while (just for “balance” of course).

My prediction for next week—Jim DeMint and Jim Traficant.
