Short answer, if you are ever being attacked and want police response immediately. Say “officer down!”.

I read the transcripts on this.

If you are calling for help, keep your language clean. This girl was verbally abusive, and the 911 operator simply doesn’t have to take this kind of abuse; no one should.

Vulgar or not, swearing is considered free speech. Supreme Court case Cohen Vs. California.

The servant gets paid to take the abuse. They are simply words, it’s not his job to play word smith, but to serve and place 911 information.

If the servant cant handle a potty mouth, he needs to quit.

I learned the hard way a long time ago you take you chances anytime you call 911. If the cops dont try to blame you or suspect you of something then the perpetrator will come after you when he/she beats the rap. I will never call 911 again unless it is to report a fire or a car accident.

Cop needs to be disciplined.

Girl needs her mouth washed out.

The first priority for a 911 operator must always be saving lives. All the rest can be dealt with later. Callers (such as the girl in question) are understandably stressed, and often panicking. A professional 911 operator would understand that.

The operator was wrong, wrong, wrong!

I don’t care what she said on the phone, that ignorant [expletive] needs to do his job and take it seriously. Sometimes people with emergencies might panic and overreact. Just brush it off and do your job. Instead he puts a human life possibly at risk by delaying help because of his personal views. I hope he’s “dispatched” from his job. Oh, and then sued.

Whoa! You watched that video, including the taped calls, and you are siding with the paid, trained professional rather than with the frantic girl? Unbelievable!

The girl, only 17, was frustrated and upset. I’m sure she would have calmed, had he provided immediate assistance.

As a 20 year retired LEO, I am embarrassed by stories such as this. I always thought of law enforcement as a career not a job. I’ve made mistakes, but I don’t think they were egregious as those I’ve been reading about on FR lately.

I can think of many reasons why we are in this position today and all of them deal with pushing promotions of low-experienced officers into the command ranks.

In my own department, you needed 5 years experience as a patrol officer in order to take a promotional exam. Now you can be promoted in only 2 years. These young command officers then leave the streets and work in bureaus and become the Chiefs that make decisions that impact all.

I look back on my own career and think about the “crusty” sergeants I worked for and am thankful for their years of experience that I was the beneficiary of.

It’s a shame the way the profession is headed.

Just one opinion.

She was intemperate, but not abusive. He was the same to her and didn’t do his job. He wasn’t so tender, with such delicate sensibilities that he could not have found out what was wrong. you don’t call 911 to get a lesson in etiquette.

or tell them that there has been a fire arm discharge - that gets them to the place real quick. (lots of them) - I wont ever call 911 unless my house is on fire or I’m having a severe medical issue

My $.02? The cop should be reprimanded. He appears to have made no attempt to calm the caller down. When someone’s calling 911 and cursing you have to assume it’s because the situation is dire not that they simply have a foul mouth. He didn’t seem to make any attempt to get the information he simply hung up on her.

The thing is, the girl didn't even know she was connected when she first started saying 'F--!'. The number was dialling and she was just muttering it under her breath in frustration while she waited for someone to get on the line. She didn't realise anyone could already hear her. The cop got on the line and started admonishing her before she ever knowingly said 'F---' to him.

And I am certain he hears his colleagues say 'F---' all day long and it doesn't bother him at all.

Incidently, on that same Youtube page you can link to another video where a motorist just goes completely nuts at the cop and the cop just remains really stoical. It's hilarious in a way. If I had been the cop I don't know if I could have been that calm.

Crazy motorist shouting at cop

Indeed no one should have to take this abuse, however, it is her father who is suffering the consequences. He was the one having convulsions, right? And he wasn’t abusing anybody.
