Lawmakers Balk at Holding Guantanamo Detainees in U.S.
Washington Post ^ | May 8, 2009 | Perry Bacon Jr.

Worried that some former Guantanamo Bay detainees may end up on U.S. soil, congressional Republicans and Democrats are sharply questioning President Obama's plans for closing the military prison in Cuba. The Democratic-led House Appropriations Committee yesterday passed a bill to fund the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan while stripping the more than $50 million that administration officials had requested for closing the prison and starting the relocation of its 240 prisoners. Lawmakers criticized the administration for not yet offering a detailed plan on prisoner relocation.

Republicans, who have said the issue is an example of Obama's weakness on national security, accused the president of endangering Americans. They proposed legislation dubbed the "Keep Terrorists Out of America Act," which would bar moving Guantanamo prisoners to a U.S. facility unless the receiving state's governor and legislature approved....several Democrats have joined Republicans in saying they do not want Guantanamo prisoners in their states or districts....

Administration officials have not said where the detainees would go, but they rejected the idea that Americans would face any risks from closing the prison by January. Obama announced his plan to close the facility on his third day in office, casting it as one of a series of sharp breaks with the Bush administration.....

Most Democrats have supported Obama's idea of closing the prison, and the Democrats on the Appropriations Committee rejected an amendment proposed by Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-Kan.) that would ban the the use of any funding to transfer prisoners from Guantanamo Bay to the continental United States. Democrats instead passed a resolution directing the administration to produce a detailed plan by Oct. 1....

It's all part of Eric Holder's plan to develop a private terrorist army that Obama can use to deal with domestic "problems" that might pop up.

The deal is the pukes get out of Gitmo, get paid by Obama's campaign, and they get to go around and murder Christians and Jews.

No doubt it's such a deal they can't refuse.

(BTW, my thesis there, if used as a starting point is, unfortunately, supported by the facts on the ground).

I prefer my plan! Send them to zoos nationwide. Cage them. Throw in food once a day. Wieners.

Excellent. No politician wants the blowback from Bambi’s Gitmo mess.

I was watching Rachel Maddow on MSNBC. And she said that we locked up Timothy McVeigh, Ted Bundy, Charles Manson, and others on American soil, so why are the conservatives against putting Gitmo prisoners in American prisons???

Well, that’s one man’s/girl’s opinion. She’s taking the liberal view that these people are just like somebody in prison for robbing a 7-11 or selling drugs.

I can think of one reason, having to do with the legalities. One is that if the terrorists are in American prisons, they have more legal rights than they do when imprisoned at Gitmo. Their useful idiot lawyers can cause more mischief if their clients are in American prisons than they can if they are tucked away at Gitmo.

But the big difference being that McVeith, Bundy, Manson et all were and are American citizens. The Gitmo pukes aren’t. Her logic — surprise — is faulty. I think we should take them and dump then in whichever of their native Islamic hell holes they originated. China can take care of its own, ditto Saudi Arabia, Syria, Egypt etc. What their home governments do with them is not our concern. But before we send them back to the appropriate Islamic hell hole, we should implant a GPS device in them so we know where they are at all times. As if that is going to happen. I think the Obamites are beginning to get a taste of the corner into which they have painted themselves.
