[T]he House Judiciary Committee chairman's May 4 statement exonerating ACORN couldn't have come out at a worse time. "Based on my review of the information regarding the complaints against ACORN, I have concluded that a hearing on this matter appears unwarranted at this time," Conyers said in a statement aired that night on CNN's "Lou Dobbs Tonight."
Just hours earlier his fellow Democrats in Nevada, Secretary of State Ross Miller and Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto dropped a bombshell. ACORN and two former senior ACORN employees in the state, they announced, had been charged with a total of 39 felony counts related to voter registrations.

When on Wednesday this reporter asked Conyers spokesman Jonathan Godfrey to explain the decision not to move forward with a probe, he declined to do so and instead emailed the same statement that was aired on CNN earlier in the week.
It's unclear what exactly crystallized Conyers's thinking, but his reversal is all the more puzzling given the enthusiasm the 23-term congressman showed for holding an ACORN hearing mere weeks ago.
****
It was always hard to believe that the ultra-liberal Conyers, who is very sympathetic to ACORN's policy goals and who as recently as October called the radical group "a longstanding and well regarded organization that fights for the poor and working class," really wanted to investigate his longtime ally in the leftist movement.
Conyers, who received a 100% rating from ACORN in its 2006 legislative scorecard, showed how truly in sync he was with ACORN when he spoke at the group's national convention last June 22.

Stock up on rope, we’re going to need a lot of it.
“It’s unclear what exactly crystallized Conyers’s thinking...”
ROTFLMAO
Scandals are only investigated in election years when Republicans hold high office.
Years ago, I wondered if the Watergate incident would have been a mere footnote in history had Nixon been a Democrat.
Every time I see something like this, I'm a little more sure of it.
All right, I gotta step up here with a swagger and an attitude.
I assume that Conyers can kill this probe because the Dems are in the majority? If not, can’t the pubs do something?
But oncit upon a time, the lazy blow-dried, suntanned, cocktail party invites, polished nails REPUBLICANS were in the majority so why the hell didn’t THEY initiate an investigation?
I’m not giving up. Most of the problems with the Democrats, well yeah they’re corrupt, dishonest and communist, but they wouldn’t be outta control IF WE HAD A DECENT OPPOSITION PARTY!!!!
We don’t. With no opposition, corruption runs amok.
It's a must on ones resume' when running for political office before being recommended for a (D) following ones name.
And, who cares?
Politicians will always protect their own if it means saving their own asses, as well.
State criminal courts are where these ACORN cases belong.
Start putting them in jail.
When funding is involved, THEN congress (and the rest of America) needs to get involved.
ACORN can’t be distracted right now. They’re busy getting ready to rig the census.
Not at all.
I am so aggravated with things ending up in congressional hands, instead of law enforcement. Congress needs to be checked with a long, long hockey stick.
As corrupt as the day is long.
“Deep Throat” is the one who botched the Bill Ayers prosecution by using illegal techniques to obtain information in the case.
So while he ratted out Nixon, he himself was not above the law as an enforcer.
Conyers knows ACORN got their radical marxist in. This should be a conflict of interest he should recuse himself...yeah right and then I woke up.
He should be in jail with the rest of em...making big rocks into little ones..
Shoulda used spell check...
The line I’ve run into over and over from Acorn defenders is that voter “registration fraud isn’t serious” unlike voter suppression “that the evil Republicans do.”
OK, they don’t always say “evil” Republicans but otherwise they could be parrots.
"ACORN Voter Fraud Map? Looks pretty good to me."

Mais oui, quelle surprise...
Our government is riddled with radical Marxists. It was under Bush, too, which was why the poor guy could never get anything done.
Read Whittaker Chambers’ “Witness” if you want to know how thoroughly infiltrated we were - and are now. It’s still the same crowd: Democrat politicians and rich and middle class “intellectuals” (nowadays, those would probably be media and law folks) and Hollywood.
Conyers thought the ACORN people needed time to get ready to conduct the census. Probes are messy and time consuming.
Whatever happend to the investigation into his wife’s illegal activity? Seems quite sometime since we’ve heard anything further.
