CONTROVERSIAL MAYOR DIES TWO DAYS AFTER LOSS
MSNBC ^ | May 7, 2009 | Associated Press

Frank Melton, the mayor of Mississippi's largest city, died early Thursday, two days after losing a primary re-election bid and days before he was set to stand trial on federal civil rights charges. He was 60.

(snip)

Trial had been set to start Monday for Melton and a former bodyguard, who each faced two federal civil rights charges related to a sledgehammer attack on a duplex on Aug. 26, 2006, that Melton considered a crackhouse.

(snip)

He became a fixture in poor neighborhoods, where he would talk to youngsters about personal accountability and hard work. He tried to broker a cease fire among gangs and volunteered as a swim instructor at an area YMCA.

He was elected by a landslide in 2005 after campaigning on a tough-on-crime platform. Since then, however, he was hounded by legal problems related to his unorthodox tactics.

Sounds kind of interesting. I don't know anything about the man. Is there anyone out there who could fill me in?

The guy was nuttier than squirrel poo IMHO.

He had some decent ideas of reform but was too crazy to be taken seriously.

An incredible mayor.

Driven to an early death by the ACLU and federal PC Nazis.

No mention that he’s a Democrat. Thanks liberal media/MSNBC.

I figured he was a Democrat because they didn’t mention his party affiliation. If he were a Republican, it would have been the first thing mentioned.

...he would talk to youngsters about personal accountability and hard work.

Certainly controversial these days.

controversial ... a law and order Democrat. Made his reputation in the private sector. Owned TV stations in Texas and Mississippi. Mentored dozens of troubled teens and put them on the right path.

Used to have a weekly TV editorial called "The Bottom Line" where he would name names, show pictures, and call out the drug dealers and their accomplices in the DA's office. Made a lot of enemies.

But, somewhere in all the good that he tried to do, there was a screw loose in Frank's head. He could be crazier than bat-shlt.

Love him or hate him, you couldn't ignore him.

Another glowing report about the nut job Melton.

He and his sycophants must be laughing that he cheated the white devil out of sending him to prison.

He was Frank.

Beloved and Bedeviled.

If he hadn't been crazy he would have been a damn good mayor.

Very creative in many ways, very suspicious and strange in others.

But I have to ask:

“Frank, dying of a heart attack? Is that the best you could come up with to avoid federal prosecution. You're slipping in your old age...”

I heard him speak in Vicksburg one night more than a few years ago. It wasn’t just a breath of fresh air....it was more like a hurricane. Mississippi has lost a good one.

“Driven to an early death by the ACLU and federal PC Nazis.”

Plus some alcohol abuse and self induced stress doesn’t
help any. Most of his “problems” were brought about
by his own ignorance and ego.
