The Senate dealt a blow tonight to Sen. Arlen Specter's hold on seniority in several key committees, a week after the Pennsylvanian's party switch placed Democrats on the precipice of a 60-seat majority.
In a unanimous voice vote, the Senate approved a resolution that added Specter to the Democratic side of the dais on the five committees on which he serves, an expected move that gives Democrats larger margins on key panels such as Judiciary and Appropriations.

In an interview with Deborah Solomon that will appear in the upcoming issue of the New York Times Magazine, Arlen Specter says he hopes that Republican Norm Coleman wins his recount battle in Minnesota against the Democrat Al Franken.
With your departure from the Republican Party, there are there are no more Jewish Republicans in the Senate. Do you care about that?
I sure do. There’s still time for the Minnesota courts to do justice and declare Norm Coleman the winner.
Which seems about as likely at this point as Jerry Seinfeld’s joining the Senate.
Well, it was about as likely as my becoming a Democrat.
The full interview comes out on Sunday.

LMAO !
He is like a wagon wheel that fell off the GOP and can’t quite find an axle with the Democrats.
They did not need him or any Republican really, but he is now their bull in a china shop. They either need to ride herd on him and keep him on the reservation or he’ll embarrass them.
Actually, can Democrats ever be embarrassed?
Does Ridge really want to run?
Also, how is Toomey perceived in PA? Can he win a general?
Don’t count on it. He actually did increase his chances of being reelected unless a strong Democrat challenges him, and I am not sure that is likely. Sadly, in a general election he’s likely to win. Our best hope was to beat him in the primary.
Yep, he’ll be 80 years old next year, I think. I mean, it’s plain common-sense. Why would the Dems support an 80 year old with no principles when they can easily find someone much younger? Ridge is going to do the Dems’ dirty work and take out Toomey, so whoever is the Dem candidate they’ll easily trounce Ridge in the general because conservatives will stay home. Even Stevie Wonder can see this scenario.
This little p*ssant gives them their vote on most things, so they say they will back him in the primary ... maybe get all other Dem possible to stay away. Reid wouldn’t let him lead the way to the latrine.
Got what he deserves for his years of boot licking of Dems. He began his political life as a Dem, switched with Reagan to get elected and now goes home. Trouble his marbles are known and not powerful enough to truly be a big player in any game.
Next - defeat in the primary or general. Hopefully.
I agree with you. While the margin is symbolic, it’s not like Senate Republicans have exactly been a solid force for some time.
Specter’s a very arrogant guy. I know that because he’s my senator, even though I don’t vote for him.
These guys are addicted to power and money. He should just retire. Who keeps working at that age, other than politicians.
All indications point to a Ridge run. He already has the party bosses and GOP beltway elites whispering in his ear. He'll have the full backing of the RNC/NRSC and they'll tag-team with the Dems to defeat Toomey.
Also, how is Toomey perceived in PA? Can he win a general?
Toomey is very popular and conservative, but without party backing, it'll be an uphill fight. He'll have the grassroots, but he likely won't be able to overcome Dem crossover voters who'll vote for Ridge & the media drumbeat that he's too conservative to win.
Knew this would happen to him, but had no idea it would occur so soon. HA! Couldn’t happen to a nicer RINO!
I think Pat T won his house seat in a pretty Dem district. He seems to be well liked. can he carry the state? Well the fools kept Murtha and Kajorski in PA in 2008.
Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.
Democrats: He’s your problem now. No exchanges, no returns. May he give you as much joy as he gave us.
They’re sick and twisted but, damn, those Democrats know how to run a political party!
Looks like Toomey might get a primary challenge from Tom Ridge.
I love this. You get what you ask for!
Of course not.To feel embarrassment one must have a conscience. And to be a RAT today requires one to be utterly devoid of conscience. The last RAT with a conscience was purged from the party about 10 years ago.
Have they announced who they are going to run against him in the RAT primary???
Bwaaaaa ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!
GOTV will be critical in both the primary and the general and, sadly, unless their is some overwhelming factor or popular support, Toomey is toast without the RNC/NRSC/PA GOP.
