Senate Democrats Deny Specter Committee Seniority
WashPost ^ | 5/5/09 | Paul Kane

The Senate dealt a blow tonight to Sen. Arlen Specter's hold on seniority in several key committees, a week after the Pennsylvanian's party switch placed Democrats on the precipice of a 60-seat majority.

In a unanimous voice vote, the Senate approved a resolution that added Specter to the Democratic side of the dais on the five committees on which he serves, an expected move that gives Democrats larger margins on key panels such as Judiciary and Appropriations.

I am still a Hillary Democrat. I didn’t change back. Can’t wait to see who I will be voting ‘for’ in the primary.

As a long-suffering Pennsylvanian, this is indeed sweet.

As Churchill said when he switched parties for the second time, anyone can “rat,” but it takes real ingenuity to re-rat. Specter the Defector clearly doesn’t have what it takes.

The best part is that he has ensured that history will remember him accurately: as a cowardly, unprincipled opportunist, and a stupid one at that.

Thought I’d heard last week Specter got a promise from Dingy Harry he’d retain those senior posts — is that correct?

MD won twice once with Sarbanes and Mikulski, right? People there haven’t a clue about “leadership”. I bet George Calvert wishes he had landed somewhere else.

“Specter is the ultimate turncoat. If in the future the Republicans were to gain power again he would be begging to let back in.”

Yeah, just like Jumpin’ Jeffers did in 2004. HA!

So what do PA voters have? Arlen is leading in all polls now; people there believe in him.

Arlen is now the official red headed step-child and will receive periodic slaps up'SIDE his head.

It doesn’t say much about the PA voters in his district. They are devoid of the ability to think beyond their sexuality, selfish “government should take care of me—and my irresponsibility”—attitude. They apparently have zero morality and principles beyond separating other people from their money. They have absolutely no concept of getting off their lazy butts, working hard and taking the risks that enrich other people. Their world never rises above envying and hating others for what they have—and that includes morality.

Their concept of happiness is sitting on their sofa collecting other people’s money and watching the inane pap on the boob tube. They’re so dumb they don’t even realize the government is taxing them to death, too. They really do believe it is only the rich that are getting hit.

If you build your life quick sand it will eventually swallow you up.

Specter just became the beneficiary of a nice fax greeting. You may want to send him something. :)

My Prediction: In short order, he announces he will not run for re-election. He then has a huge amount of power at a critical stage in US History.

Swing vote. No party loyalties.

This is the only way he remains relevant and not a laughingstock.

Why should the democrats have a majority in these committees?

Good prediction last week. Specter deserves more than this, he deserves the seventh ring of hell right up until he loses either the primary or the general next year. A RINO had his hour, and that’s about all, in the sun. Now darkness and grinding of teeth.

Yeah, the PA State GOP is pro-Toomey, but Specter’s RINO former buddies (led by Orin Hatch) want Ridge and are pushing him.

Sweet justice for Specter. He looked like a deer caught in the headlights on TV. What did he expect from this bunch of liars and crooks? He really fits in quite well. Too bad though he has lost all his 29 years of experience. I wonder if it will affect his retirement pay.
