Rep. Lacy Clay's wife is "devastated" she learned about divorce through media
Politico ^ | May 5, 2009 | Shenanigans--Anne Schroeder Mullins

The St. Louis Post Dispatch has been keeping tabs on Rep. Lacy Clay's (D-Mo.) impending divorce. Sadly, it was news - literally - to Clay's wife, Ivie.

Yesterday the St. Louis Dispatch reported that the congressman had his divorced filings sealed. (This after a reporter asked to see the file.)

And today, Ivie Clay released a stinging statement regarding her husband, whom she married in 1992 when he was a state senator. Turns out, Ivie and her children found out about the divorce only through the media.

She released the following statement:

“I and my children are devastated and embarrassed that my husband let us find out from the children’s friends and the media that he had filed for divorce, and mostly that he still has not contacted our children,” Ivie Clay said. “I would have wanted to prepare the children.

“I have been a loving, supportive wife throughout our 17-year marriage,” Ivie Clay said. “I have raised the children and held down the fort so that my husband could work 4 days a week, first in Jefferson City and now in Washington, DC, travel overseas, and do everything required to fulfill the duties of his elected office – all while working my own full-time job.”

Clay responded today, saying:

"This is a time of great sadness for my family and me. My wife and I have been discussing this situation for a number of months and this action should not have come as a surprise to anyone. Of course, my first concern is for our children, whom I love dearly, and for their peace & privacy. I will continue to be a devoted father to them, and I hope that the public will understand that this is a difficult, private family matter that will hopefully be resolved amicable and swiftly by all parties."

How can somebody get a divorce granted and have the documents sealed without the other spouse even know that it's happening? Where are her property rights? This sounds more like Sharia Law than US law.

I believe he was one of those Reps outraged that anybody could even hint that Fannie and Freddie were problematic and should be regulated.

He should be investigated to the nth degree.

Just like Specter, who’s “not going to let the electorate stand in the way of his 29-year-career”, Clay’s not going to let his marriage stand in the way of a do-nothing job.

Bla’gard.

He and all the other “men” who abandon their wives without just cause and abandon their children to be raised by others - “men” who renege on their duties and promises, and put all men under a cloud of suspicion and distrust, making us all look like undsisciplined little boys.

Bla’gards and renegades, all of them. This little “Lacy” boy needs a good, harsh, unofficial “lesson” from his fellows, to be brought in line with the code of men’s honor and duty.

We knew a guy (William Chu) who attempted to arrange things so that his wife would get locked up in the county jail the day before his first hearing regarding child custody (as part of his divorce case). His objective was to have his wife wearing prison garb and bound in chains.

He didn't quite succeed at that, but he did get an ex parte ruling from a judge on a late Friday afternoon ~ which caused no end of problems.

That judge declined to hear any more appeals from William.

So, yeah, judges can be persuaded to do stupid stuff.

Honor and duty. Ancient but meaningful words. Sorely missed words.

How can somebody get a divorce granted and have the documents sealed without the other spouse even know that it's happening?

Don't know about nowadays, but my brother's first wife divorced him without any prior notice. He came home from work one Friday, and his wife and kids weren't home. He picked up the mail, and saw a letter addressed to him. It was a Decree of Divorce, so he went in packed his stuff up and left, then called our Mama to let her know what had happened. His wife called her Mother later that evening crying hysterically that he'd left her, and when her Mother called my Mama to fuss about what my brother had done, Mama told her to ask her daughter what she expected when she'd divorced him without his knowing.

Turns out, she'd filed, and it got on the Rocket Docket, and in 3 days it was a done deal. Nothing amicable about it, I can tell you!

Was this Lacy guy a PoleCat Democrat?

You can literally get a divorce from someone without the other person even knowing? That's amazing. You can't sue somebody without them knowing. And this is your "life partner" we're talking about...

And what an absolutely **it way to treat the children. They, too, found out through the media and at school. He was divorcing them, not just her. And, with sealed documents, how is she supposed to find out how much child support she gets, etc.? The whole thing amazes me...

I believe he was one of those Reps outraged that anybody could even hint that Fannie and Freddie were problematic and should be regulated.

For all practical purposes, the Congressional Oversight Committee for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac was the Congressional Black Caucus.

It was their own confidential distributor of political favors and personal slush fund, all in one.

Nobody cares, though. Because they're black. Affirmative action even applies to corruption and criminality.

Clay's response:My wife and I have been discussing this situation for a number of months and this action should not have come as a surprise to anyone.

Nobody can convince me this response wasn't written by a sheister lawyer, and that the response isn't intended to further demean his wife by calling her a liar, in keeping with the sluts or nuts modus operandi of lefties.

A local man left his house, drove 20 miles down the road and called back to tell her he was divorcing her.

Talk about cowardly.

Another St. Louis paper opened the article on this by talking about the divorces of Kit Bond and Roy Blunt, both Republicans—as if divorce is just a typical casualty of a political career. Of course, neither Republican’s wife found out after the deal was done—and sealed to boot! What an indignity to females. But, he’s a Democrat so any way he treats his wife must be okay because he’s pro-choice, which somehow makes him sympathetic to women’s needs.
