The influenza virus can survive on paper money for 10 or more days suggesting that when we shop, spend and bank, theres more than cash that is changing hands.
The link between flu virus and paper currency is explained this week in a story on SmartMoney.com. The findings dont mean we should fret about handling currency but it does illustrate why health officials repeatedly tell people to wash hands frequently. From the SmartMoney report:

But remember to WASH YOUR HANDS for at least 20 seconds with soap.
That’s okay. Send me all your money. I’ll dispose of it. Glad to help.
I should be OK, then.
I’ll take my chances. LOL
Do yourself a favor and go broke to live.
SOOOOO....I suppose this means we should send all our money to DC....they’ll take care of it???
Since I’m apparently immune to money, I should be immune to the flu.
After handling lots of cash and standing in crowds at Churchill Downs and the KY Derby betting booths, I should have aches, fever, headache, nausea. Alas, no symptoms of illness to report. Utter disappointment. I should have bet the long shot.
I always, always wash my hands as soon as possible after touching money. If I buy lunch, I go wash my hands before I eat. If I count money at home, ditto, wash before leaving the house. Obviously, this is not always possible but I do it as often as is humanly possible.
Why? Well, having worked in the medical field, I’ve heard one too many story about where the docs found the money stashed when people were brought into the ER. Just UGH!!! Anyone who heard these stories would do the same. Flu is the least of my worries.
No, I think Pinch wants you to send all your spare cash to the NY Times to pay their bills.
So can I use this as an excuse to Launder Money?? I have a sure fire way to “clean” paper money of the Flu Virus! Anyone who suspects their money has the virus should send it to me immediately. Unfortunately the process destroys the paper money and I can’t send it back to you. Thanks.....LOL.
Been workin my arse off the last few days. I guess I owe...
Well, you may be onto something. Some lady wrote a book about garbage and she was on Dennis Prager’s show. It was rather fascinating. She was talking about how the guys that worked at the garbage dumps said they NEVER get sick. NEVER.
There is something to being immune. Maybe you are immune from handling so much disease-ridden money. If so, then lucky you. As for me, it’s psychological and I just can’t bear the thought of what was on the money so I wash my hands as soon as possible, if a sink is available.
Let’s create another thing to worry about. Then when it’s hyped up enough, float the no more paper money balloon. If that goes over well,we can go to a cashless society so the government can monitor all our purchases.
I don’t think people are worried. Do you worry that you should wash your hands after you use the bathroom? It’s the same concept. Good hygiene.
Well, that might explain this flu’s apparent predilection for certain populations.
I always wash my hands after touching money. I seem to be washing my hands more & more these days. I used to iron my money years ago. I had this thing about old money & wrinkled bills. Thankfully I got over that. lmao
I mentioned that the first day...I have been watching for any opinions that agreed with me that this is a time for debit cards...no cash.
All this agonizing in an age where oral sex is commonplace.
I have always thought it would be easy for a bio attack. So easy to infect money that is passed around over and over. And, I always have my Purell at the ready.
