TERRE HAUTE - Indiana State University officials hope increased public awareness will lead them to missing student Gerald Smith of Avon.
Wabash Valley Crimestoppers has agreed to use its resources to spread the word about Smith's disappearance via television public service announcements, billboards and a reward of up to $1,000. In addition, the Indiana State University Foundation is accepting contributions for an additional reward fund.

Does this case have any relation to all of the young men who supposedly ‘drowned’ of their own accord all up and down the Mississippi River Valley?
Is this campus near a major Interstate highway?
Just curious.
It’s on the Wabash River. There is some barge traffic there.
There is no barge traffic on that part of the Wabash and yes it is close to I-70.
This is the last known photo of Gerald Smith taken the night he disappeared.
Thanks. I wasn’t clear enough. Meant it in a more general way.
Some LEOs are looking at the “barge” connection in investigating these deaths.
There hasn’t been barge traffic on the Wabash for more than 100 years.
He had been at one of my favorite places when I was a student there in the 1970’s “The Ballyhoo” My Mom thought it was a grocery store because of all the checks I cashed there.
God forbid that this turns out to be anything close to such a tragedy.
I also thought of the "smiley face" murders. A series of deaths of men that age which some believe resulted from murders not accidents.
Most of the national publicity has been from Minneapolis talk show host Ian Punnett on CoastToCoastAM Saturday. Strange that just such a drowning occurred in Minneapolis last week. Could be a taunt from the killers? -- if it turns out to be a murder.
Punnett visited the site and said there's no way the victim could have fallen in the river accidentally at that location.
*SHIVER*
The whole situation with those ‘smiley’ murders is very, very curious.
And I’m rarely a ‘Coast to Coast AM’ listener; I love to sleep too much. :)
