State Rep. Jessica Farrar pushed a proposal through a House committee last week that could lessen penalties for some mothers who kill their infants.
The measure is aimed at women who show signs of postpartum psychosis, a rare condition that's been cited in such high-profile murder cases as that of Andrea Yates, the Texas mom who drowned her five children six months after giving birth to her youngest.

Guess we should of thrown her a big party and had a parade.
Whatever happened to “gender” equality?
Yeah! This protection should be extended to mommie's new boyfriend...
Post partum abortion ping.
What is wrong with these people? Psychosis has been faked for years. Do we really need an easy insanity plea to facilitate the killing of babies who have escaped a dangerous womb intact? If anything, the penalties need to be incredibly harsh so these women will seek help before resorting to killing.
Never existed, never will.
Who didn’t see this coming? It won’t be long until a “mother” can kill children of any age.
There was a guy (illegal alien) who put his young child in very hot water. He got life and didn’t even commit murder.
If they murdered the children in Utero, perfectly legal. I see no reason to get all excited about post-birth abortion....(sarcasm alert)
Well, a mother killing her kids is just a late abortion. No big deal. It's just a bunch of cells and unnecessary tissue.</sarcasm off>
Yes, just another step toward Peter Singer's really, really LATE post-birth "abortion."
What’s the big deal? I mean, partial birth abortion is pretty much a permanent plank in the ‘Rat platform.
Just think of this as a “post-birth” abortion.
I seriously don’t want to live to see what they legalize next. It would be better to die of cancer than to witness the future of America.
Seriously, though, every state criminal code already considers the insanity issue both at the trial stage and at the sentencing stage. Andrea Yates had both a history of being on anti-psychotic prescription meds, and evidence that she experienced visual and auditory halluciations --- and she has been in psychiatric care ever since her murder trial because of that.
To carve out a special category based partly upon the age of the victim (infanticide) and not simply on the clinically-verifiable psychiatric state of the murderess, seems to be making exception based on the age of the victim. I don't see the justice of that.
Don’t Texas mom’s have a particularly recent spate of newborn killings?
What’s in the water in Texas?
I think leniency in this case should be allowing the hangman’s rope to be long enough that their neck breaks instead of strangling slowly.
Yep, nobody is responsible for anything anymore.
Never existed, never will.
Got that right!
Can we draw the line at 80 if they are liberal voters? It would be no more arbitrary than what these people are proposing.
