Officials Reject Allegations of Proselytizing in Afghanistan

WASHINGTON, May 4, 2009 – A report broadcast by the Arab news network Al Jazeera about U.S. servicemembers proselytizing in Afghanistan is just plain wrong, Pentagon officials said today.

The Al Jazeera story showed an evangelical religious service on Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan and a discussion about distributing Bibles that had been translated into Dari and Pashtu – the two major languages of Afghanistan.

“American servicemembers are allowed to hold religious services,” a Defense Department official speaking on background said. “The clip shows one of those services with an American chaplain leading a religious service for American servicemembers. In it, he spoke generically about the evangelical faith. That’s all there was to it.”

The chaplain did not urge servicemembers to go among the Afghan people and attempt to gain converts to Christianity, the official said.

In the second instance, a young sergeant received a shipment of Bibles translated into Dari and Pashtu from his church in the United States. The film showed a discussion about the Bibles. “What it did not show was the chaplain counseling the young sergeant that distributing the Bibles was against U.S. Central Command’s General Order No. 1,” the official said. The chaplain confiscated the Bibles. “As far as we know, none ever got off base.”

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Navy Adm. Mike Mullen was asked about the incident – which happened in May 2008 – during a Pentagon news conference today. “It certainly is – from the United States military’s perspective – not our position to ever push any specific kind of religion, period,” Mullen said.

There is no indication disciplinary action was taken against the young servicemember. “The counseling sufficed,” the official said.

General Order No. 1 specifically forbids “proselytizing of any faith, religion or practice.”

Let’s see. Al-Jack*ss misreports a story , then they ask a question about the erroneous story they reported and then they report on the answer to the question about the erroneous story they reported.

Unbiased? Right.

One of the big problems with Moslems is that every single thing they believe can, if put into practice, cause them to be imprisoned, fined or otherwise punished in any civilized country.

They're going to have to tend to that problem if they want to have a long term presence on this planet.

I can see a future where they all get sent to a terra formed ice-moon out in the Kuiper Belt.

I've seen Moslems do this business of observing a Western practice, wrongly interpreting it, and then reporting that erroneous interpretation, and then coming back to it some time later to make false charges based on that erroneous interpretation.

The reason they do that is that it's OK to lie about kaifer. Secondly, in an illiterate society (or one only newly literate in any meaningful sense), it's virtually impossible for anyone to check facts.

It's always a real surprise ot them to find out that Westerners know the facts behind these charges.

One exception, Leftwingtards will never believe the innocent parties but will almost invariably side with the Moslems when they attempt to bring false charges against them.

That's why we are probably going to have to launch the Leftwingtards to another terra formed ice planet in the Kuiper Belt someday. We may or may not remember to give it an atmosphere and heating.

There are probably more Christians in Afghanistan right now than there have been in a thousand years.

I hope they distribute Bibles everywhere. Preach, proselytize, too. Otherwise we will be condemned to repeat this again and again.

General Order No. 1 “Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”

I think about 1000 years back the Buddhists had completely converted the Christians or chased them away from Afghanistan.

However, knowing their own history you find people with a mazouza on the door lintel, and an "all purpose" model mosque that has four minarets ~ each opening up to provide room for a candle. An incense burner is smack dab in the middle on top.

So much for conversions.

“They’re going to have to tend to that problem if they want to have a long term presence on this planet.”

From the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace: The Muslim population in 2009 is 1.824 Billion. (26.7% of world population.

Large enough presence to remain long term.
