DETROIT – The NAACP has fought for a century to bring equal and civil rights to blacks, but the Rev. Jesse Jackson believes the organization's current battle is to help the troubled U.S. economy and struggling domestic auto industry.

"We must now save the entire industry from itself," Jackson said as part of the keynote address Sunday night at the Detroit NAACP's 54th Fight for Freedom Fund Dinner at Cobo Center.

"We cannot have joy while Chrysler is in bankruptcy and GM is in line. There is a sense of joy because it's high noon in our politics, but it's midnight in our economy."

There is a sense of joy because it's high noon in our politics, but it's midnight in our economy."

And there is a sense of dementia in any observer who can't recognize that the two are inextricably linked. :)

Let me see if I have this straight - blacks are suffering disproportionately due to the car companies failures and layoffs. Therefore, that means that the UAW membership is mainly black?

So they are the ones responsible for the extremely expensive wage contracts that bankrupted the car companies, and now we should be bailing out black people?

WTF???

Weren't we already doing that by paying their damn wages when we bought Detroit's cars? Does it ever end? Or now that we have a black president, we will finally be paying reparations for slavery? F'ing racists....

Those jobs must be saved, Jackson said in his 25-minute speech. "The cause of the workers is a moral cause," he said. "It's time for a righteous rebellion, civil disobedience."

Does that mean Jesse and friends will be doing sit-ins at dealerships that sell non Government/Gettelfinger cars?

All these left/liberal Democrats are going to do for the auto industry what they did for the City of Detroit.

Isn’t he part of the problem? Wasn’t his renegades part of the hijacking of the corporate auto makers to get more money for his boonies? While he was procreatin’, gettin’ his picture taken at the White House? The NAACP needs to find another spokes person.
