Tamiflu comes from an herb To live in a world that's saturated with natural anti-viral medicine and then not even acknowledge it in the media is beyond bizarre. It's Twilight Zone-like. It's like we've been teleported to an alternate universe where anti-viral plants have disappeared... or at least everyone is pretending they have.
Where do you think Tamiflu comes from, by the way?
It's extracted from the Traditional Chinese Medicine herb called Star Anise. It's one of hundreds of different anti-viral herbs found in Chinese Medicine, not to even mention anti-viral herbs from South America, North America, Australia, Africa and other regions.
I find it downright comedic that Big Pharma and the world's health authorities extract their "champion" anti-viral drug Tamiflu from a Chinese Medicine herb, and then they go out of their way to announce to people that herbs and natural remedies are useless against influenza. If that's the case then why are they using herbs to make their own medicine?
How many stories have you read that bother to tell you Tamiflu is made from the star anise herb that's been used for over 5,000 years in Traditional Chinese Medicine? Virtually none. The powers that be don't want anybody to know they could actually grow their own medicine in a garden or a windowsill. If you can grow cilantro, you can grow medicine. If everybody figured that out, Big Pharma wouldn't be reaping the enormous profits it's making right now from Tamiflu sales, and the governments of the world wouldn't be able to scare and control people by promising to distribute Tamiflu (but only if you behave).

Sounds like you’re eatin’ good my friend ...
You replied to me, but you meant someone else ( I did not mention grape seeds). And I was only kidding...do NOT drink the all-natural strychnine tea (or the others I mentioned).
I thought you might be trying to build up an immunity, like with Iocane powder...
Hate to tell you this but Tamiflu is a semi-synthetic drug made from a natural product called shikimic acid. Semi-synthetic means that the starting material is obtained from a natural source. Then, it is modified in a number of discreet steps. This number can be as small as one or as large as 20. The take home lesson it that it makes absolutely no difference where the starting material comes from, or whether the material is derived from a natural or synthetic source. Once an organic chemists performs the first step (the first reaction on the starting material) you have something that is completely different from the original stuff. It may or may not have similar properties—that depends on which reaction is run. The only thing that matters is the chemical structure of the drug itself. In the case of Tamiflu, the structure is enormously different from shikimic acid. Not even close. Ph.D. in chemistry with 25 years doing drug research. And yes, I do know what I’m talking about.

So many people don't understand that a pyrexia is a self-defense mechanism for the body. It's reflective of the absolute failure of our public education system, especially in the area of science education.
If Aspirin was just discovered, it would never be approved for over-the-counter use. As you point out, it can have dangerous and even fatal side-effects.
On a completely unrelated note, do you think that this latest Federal Court of Appeals ruling that completely debunks the MMR - autism link will finally put this ridiculous issue to bed. Or, are we in for another decade or more of unfounded vaccine paranoia?
If you want there to be. lol
I chew up and swallow a piece of Osha root. No relation to the Fedgov agency it's an Indian name meaning "Bear Medicine." The botanical name is Ligusticum porteri. If you used a fresh plant tincture there would be alcohol involved but with only 30-60 drops for a dose it wouldn't be much of a thrill.
I didn't mention it before because it would probably be difficult to locate some. An herb store or natural foods store might have it. I have found that using it at the very first signs of infection wipes the infection out. I think the oils in it coat the mucous membranes making it difficult for the virus to replicate.
Another plant root from the same family was used by naturopaths in the Pacific Northwest and Utah and Nevada during the 1918 flu epidemic and the death rates in that region were significantly lower. Lomatium dissectum. It has been shown that fractions of the volatile oils in Lomatium are excreted in the lungs through the bloodstream from ingesting it.
I have a hunch the same thing happens with Osha since its volatile oils seem to be a major part of its activity in other respects. Both would still be good for treatment if the infection does take hold. Osha in particular has anesthetic and cooling properties.
From personal experience my intuition is that there is a window of opportunity in the first few hours to prevent an infection from taking hold. After that the best you can do is fight it with all you've got and reduce the severity and longevity of the battle. There are a lot of herbs that could be added to those two if it comes to that. The regimen would change as the nature of the illness progressed. One regimen for initial stages, one for the acute stage, another once you've gotten over the hump and still another for general metabolic cleanup and recovery when the infection is over and you're left feeling like a wrung out dish rag.
To be honest I wouldn't touch alcohol for at least two weeks after feeling normal again. It takes a lot of metabolic energy to process it.

Hi, pandy. I thought you might like to read this.
But aspirin is a wonder drug. Judicious use of it can be very effective. In my previous post I spoke of the over the hump phase of a viral infection. That is after the fever is broken and the chills have stopped. At that point the viral replication should be over and a little aspirin for pain relief should be OK. It wouldn't be my choice.
But prior to that you are right about its negative effects and it also suppresses the immune system. Any relief of discomfort you get would be at the cost of a longer and stronger infection.
Thanks. I find this very interesting stuff. I know that natural remedies have worked better for me in the long run then what the doctors gave me for my hep c. That cr@p d@mn near killed me. I am stocking up on herbs & making liq silver & taking my raw honey. I learned from my Baba about herbs & ways to treat things from an early age. I have to find my note book as I think you would find it interesting. I just dread the attic & the spiders!
For preventive measures a clove of garlic a day and Echinacea will boost your immune system. The garlic in your bloodstream is a direct anti-biotic and anti-fungal too. It won't kill viruses but if you reduce bacteria and fungi your immune system will be less stressed if it has to deal with a virus.
Now, get thee up to the attic, Spider Woman!
The best place I’ve found for vitamins and supplements and such (creams and some foods too!) is www.iherb.com . I love how you can read customer reviews of products there.
Soon as somebody puts the new attic stairs up I will.
I think you will like the prices a lot better at Swanson’s. They also have reviews, and I can speak highly of their quality and service. Check em out.
Cool. Thanks.
The main problem with NAC is gagging it down.
Might be better to just get the flu...
Asprin - same story.
