If there is anyone here who doesn't understand why we cannot support a slick socialist politician like Mitt Romney, God help you, but you're on the wrong website. We went through this with the abortionist, gay rights activist, illegal alien supporting, gun grabbing Rudy Giuliani until someone created another website call WAnkers for Rudy and they all flew the coop. Hopefully, before too much FReeper blood is shed, someone will create a WAnkers for Romney site and we can be left to fight the good fight as we see fit!

FR is not for everyone!

Thanks once again Jim for clarifying for the confused political wankers out there what Free Republic supports - conservatism.

Jim says:
Free Republic is a conservative site. That does not necessarily mean it is a Republican site. In fact there may be many Republicans we don't support and some Republican issues we cannot agree with.
I say: Free Republic is a LIBERTARIAN site. That does not necessarily mean ALL FREEPERS ARE LIBERTARIANS. In fact there may be many FREEPERS WHO ARE NOT.

But in the past, Jim, I've called on you to make a statement - one way or the other - on the divisive issues of Libertarianism. But you don't.

This thread here? All well and good. But NOW is the time for you to get off the fence and clean house regarding libertarians.

Jim, thank you for the clarification.

I hope you will either post this explanation as part of FR’s home page or put a link to it.

FR is not for everyone, but it’s for me!

Thanks Jim for a very fine post.

Hopefully Mitt “the socialist” Romney will cancel his FR handle “mitt romney” and take his cool-aid drinkers with him.

“Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant, to step over the
ocean, and crush us at a blow? Never! — All the armies of Europe, Asia
and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own
excepted) in their military chest; with a Bonaparte for a commander,
could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the
Blue Ridge, in a trial of a Thousand years. At what point, then, is the
approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it
must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction
be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation
of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.” ~ Abraham Lincoln

A key concept that ought to unite ALL conservatives — both here and in general — can be simply stated as ‘Not on MY watch !!!’

Otherwise, I agree whole-heartedly with your stated principles and the objectives of YOUR ‘FreeRepublic.COM’.

Is there another ‘culling’ in our near future ?

Jim,

I’m both relieved and thankful you took the time to explain this. I was almost zotted by a mod for not agreeing with John McCain shortly after I joined the website and have been slammed for being a conservative that believes in God, for crying out loud!

I’ve considered whether this is the right place for me, but then you posted this... not even a consideration now. I support freerepublic wholeheartedly.

Sincerely,

GG

RINOs must have prevented me from seeing this thread before now. ;-)

Well said Jim. The go along to get along crowd really need to rethink their priorities.

From my point of view, the line in the sand should have been honored when Reagan did it in 1981. My unofficial motto today is, not one step further.

Folks, we either take a stand on principles, or we hand the Demcrats our party. Frankly, I think we already have, but it’s time to take it back.

This new effort to rebrand the party is nothing more than an effort to ensconce the old RINO players at the helm for another ten years. Not no, but hell no. This S has got to stop.

It’s time to recognize what we stand for, develop reasoned non-offensive ways to explain why, shed those who can’t get behind this, and go on a crusade.

Totally in agreement...on most points.
What we need is a conservative with b**ls. We will be forever at the mercy of Obama and his Marxist henchmen until the day we can come up with and rally support for the candidate who captures the public interest and makes patriotism politically popular again. In my opinion, there is NO ONE out there right now who can assume that mantle. We had ONE Ronald Reagan. May he rest in peace.

I agree with most of what you said but I’ll defend McCain.

We did, or I hope most of did, support him in 08. And we would be so much better off if he were the President now.

And can we not forgive and forget?

After all, he did pick Sarah Palin as his running mate.
