Romney dings Time list, Palin
Politico ^ | May 3, 2009 | Ben Smith

Posted on 05/03/2009 12:16:30 PM PDT by Al B.

Mitt Romney, left off Time's list of the 100 most influential people, takes a jab at the list and, by extension, the Republicans on it. [Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin]

Romney jokingly suggesting in an interview with CNN's John King that they'd been included for looks, not influence:

[...]

ROMNEY: John, I'd like to have a lot more influential Republicans. I think there are a lot more influential Republicans than that would suggest. But was that the issue on the most beautiful people or the most influential people? I'm not sure. If it's the most beautiful, I understand. We're not real cute.

I think we should all realize what we need to do... make a pact... and start doing it. Maybe all of this bickering will clear the air and get things rolling... I do not know... I just know what must be done.

I think everyone gets the point now, LLS.

It’s sad it had to come about this way though.

People ask each other nicely to cool their jets, and they just keep on going.

And I’ll admit, I’ve been that way as well.

Well, I hope he/she shows up soon - I suppose that event will happen after the 2010 election - if the Republicans don’t pick up seats any Republican candidate is virtually doomed in 2012.

Gov. Palin is absolutely the leader of the GOP,
the biggest draw in their herstory, and should
be respected by the women-hating RINOs like Romney.

WHY can't Palin win? You didn't answer that question. I want to know why you think she can't win -- I already know that you believe she can't.

I’m not sure that she even has that fire in the belly ...

Oh please spare us that disgusting phrase. There was only ONE group that I've ever seen use it, here and outside of FR -- and that was when it was thrown around like dung by people who didn't like Fred Thompson way back in the early primaries.

If I didn't know better, I'd think you are just a retread of that gang, hoping that it will work as well if you fling it at Sarah than when you flung it at Fred. One thing you can say about Romney -- he's got "fire in the belly," alright. Fire that manifests as ruthless opportunism and near obsession. The man spent millions, never gets a rise out of the audience in his speeches (watch the CPAC speech), is documented to have flip-flopped and then flop-flipped -- and he keeps going, like the Terminator. Yep, he's got fire in the belly, for sure.

"Fire in the belly" is a bullsh*t qualifier. Obama had it -- so what?

Well, for certain I see that unique exhibits the standard Romney supporter MO of dodging specifics.

He/she (probably a she, IMO, because handsome, Daddy's-home-reassuring Romney is the quintessential Ladies' Candidate) challenges Free Republic to hone in on finding the right candidate. When attempts are made to do so by introducing Palin, unique suggests that Palin is not electible, and then proceeds to skip an entire step in any serious discussion, and move on as if it's all settled.

Unique, you may be right or you may be wrong in your speculation that Palin is unelectable. Convince me and others who read your posts, if you're serious.

It's significant that unique did not deny that Palin would bring thousands to a rally as opposed to the 50-100 that showed up at the Romney-Bush-Cantor-backed "town hall" meeting for the National Council for a New America (hey, you know what? I long for the old America, guys!).

Unique, when it's pretty much solid fact that Palin has enough mystique and charisma at the very least to draw thousands pretty-damned-guaranteed to a Republican event, how can you write off her electability among Republicans so flippantly?

I know that you do write it off. You are proposing that everyone else write her off, as well -- tell us why we should so that we can make up our own minds whether you have a good point or not.

I tell you what -- YOU exhibit some of that "fire in the belly" you say Palin lacks, and warm it up to defend your argument that she's not electable.

Sarah Palin’s fire is the only thing that kept hussein from a Reagan like mandate win. Even Michael Barrone saw that to be fact... and he is a closet liberal.
