Specter: No promises made by Dems for switch [was "ostracized" for Porkulus vote]

Sen. Arlen Specter (Pa.) on Sunday defended his decision to join the Democratic Party this week and said Democrats did not promise him anything for switching.

Appearing on NBC's "Meet the Press," Specter said his vote for President Obama's $787 billion stimulus package was a "critical factor" in his decision.

"I bucked the Republican line," he said. "And that created a schism. My approval rating dropped 30 points with Republicans as a result of that vote."

As a result of that vote and the GOP's reaction, Specter said he was "ostracized" from the party.

-- As a result of that vote and the GOP's reaction, Specter said he was "ostracized" from the party. --

If the other Republican Senators who voted the same way on the same bill aren't similarly ostracized, then we'll know Specter is a liar.

Most likely it's not what they promised him if he switched, but what they promised him if he didn't switch.

Ensign also said that he believes Specter's decision "has been a good wake-up call for the Republican Party."

No, Ensign, the wake-up call is the fact that you can't get your base out to vote for you. The wake-up call is that Specter dropped 30% points on a non-Republican vote. Those are the wake-up calls. Specter's defection simple means that he woke up and realized that he could not run as a Republican and vote as a democrat. That is not a wake-up call, it is the result of waking up. Get a clue.

Ensign is not friendly to the 2nd amendment either. The US Senate promulagated an amicus brief in the Heller case ...

Nine Democratic Senators signed the brief. The rest must hold that firearms ownership isn't an individual right. Republicans Ensign, Lugar and Warner sided with the majority of Democrats, and did NOT sign. Democrats Baucus, Casey, Feingold, Johnson, Lincoln, Nelson (NE), Salazar, Tester and Webb signed.

If he was ostracized for the abominable “stimulus” bill, then it was rightly so. No one who calls himself a Republican should have voted for that sham.

McCain is about 10 years younger than Specter and was deemed by the Democrats and the media to be too old and sick to be POTUS.
Specter at 80, is the new star of the Democrat Party and his age and health history make McCain look like Superman.
Two bouts of brain cancer in the 90s,
a cardiac arrest after coronary bypass surgery in the late 90s and late stage Hodgkins lymphoma in 05,
with a recurrence in 08.
It’s entirely possible that Specter’s age and health will force him to retire before his term is up
and his seat will be filled with a Democrat that will be difficult for Toomey to beat.
Specter obviously didn’t have the sense to leave gracefully instead of pulling this ridiculous political stunt at the end of his career.
The Democrats are fortunate that they have so many idiot Republican Senators they can manipulate at will.

If a Democrat did what Specter did, the press would say that person was throwing a little “temper tantrum”

It will be funny when the rats turn on arlen in 2010 and run another candidate. They’ll tell him thanks for betraying your party and the voters but you’re too old and sick and no one likes you.

Since Republicans are supposed to stand for LOWER TAXES what did he expect?! Yeah, you idiot, you should have been ‘ostracized’ and so should anyone else who votes to INCREASE TAXES!

How the heck did he even know what he was signing?!

Democrats did not promise him anything for switching.

He couldn't get anything for it. They knew he would switch anyway; you don't have to buy what's already bought.
