It's a first lady faux pas -- wearing expensive, high-fashion French designer sneakers to a food bank.
Michelle Obama wore the sneakers, made by Lanvin, while helping feed the poor at a Washington food bank on Wednesday. The pricetag on the footwear? A cool $540.
Keds, they're not.
The sneakers, which come in denim and satin, are a favorite of comic Ellen DeGeneres and rapper Kanye West -- and they're "certainly not a reflection of the poor economy," said FOX News' Noelle Watters, host of iMag Style.
"She paired the kicks with a much more reasonably priced cardigan from J. Crew similar to the one she's worn in the past," Watters said. "And quite honestly, the usually well-styled Michelle didn't match. While her over-priced designer sneaks were gray and pink, her sweater was a gold argyle style. A definite fashion faux pas."
According to the New York Daily News, the first lady of style likely got her sneakers through Ikram, the Chicago retailer that usually outfits her.
Obama's style helped catapult her into the 93rd spot of Maxim's "eyeball-searing, fantasy-fulfilling, brain-exploding" Hot 100 list, which was announced Friday.
The first lady's sense of fashion has received considerable media attention. During her trip to Europe last month to accompany President Obama to the G20 summit, her fashion choices and protocol-breaking touch of the Queen of England nearly received as much ink as the summit itself.
The White House did not return a message seeking comment.

Aunt Esther usually wore sensible, flat pumps.
she needs braces
no New Balance for that gal
All the President’s wives wear very expensive clothes. Laura Bush did, Barbara Bush did, and Nancy Reagan and Jackie Kennedy most certainly did. To be real about it, Michelle O wears the least expensive clothes. She shops at J Crew and places like that. We could go out and buy the same clothes if we wanted.
There’s plenty to complain about. The First Ladies’ clothes aren’t one of them. They’re rich. They don’t dress like ditchdiggers’ wives. Move on to something that matters.
Arafat’s wife.
Because power corrupts, society’s demands for moral authority and character increase as the importance of the position increases.

She made herself fair game when she stuck herself on the podium and trashed my country.
She made herself fair game when her white hating remarks from her college thesis were revealed.
I won’t stay still while the libs try to cram this thing down our throats as a ‘fashion icon’.
No matter how they try to spin it, she will never be ‘pretty’ or look good in her clothes.
Her enormous a$$, tree trunk thighs, bow legs and size twelve feet, as well as her simian skull preclude this.
I makes me want to throw up that this trash is in the White House. She desecrates this sacred place by her very presence there.

Downright scary, that one!
Hee Haw!
Yeah....But they were Bu__ Ugly....
How do YOU know Laura Bush or Barbara Bush didn’t shop at places like J Crew, etc? HHHMMMMMM???? The fact is Michelle made an A** of herself decrying the freest country in the world, where she got EVERY possible benefit showered on her.....she’s made herself a target....and deserves it. And, it shows her continuing lack of class to go help feed the POOR with shoes like THAT! They’re UGLY.
I think we should leave the personal attacks to the Left wingers, and the policy and constitutional arguments to the those of us on the right.
I don’t give a rip about what she wears. I would not pay over $200 for a pair of boots, but I don’t have access to her $$$.
I think we need to take the High road on this.
It’s still lipstick on a pig.
She had to get the press off the focus of her gigundo butt.
Here is the thing. She has intentionally dressed down for the event because of the poor people she is serving at this event. Yet, she has the audacity to wear $500.00 tennis shoes. I would like to have to microphone for just one minute to tell her that I have always been proud of my country until her husband and she took residence in the WH.
The high road didn’t work. We have to play their game now or lose.
