Gingrich: 'Press Corps Has Taken Such a Pathetic Dive' with Obama By Brent Baker Created 2009-05-02 11:01

Reacting to the questions posed during Wednesday's presidential news conference, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich expressed disappointment with the White House press corps, telling FNC's Greta Van Susteren the journalists have “taken such a pathetic dive with this President that they ought to be part of his PR firm. I mean it's embarrassing to watch.”

Gingrich cited a series of subjects on which reporters failed to press Obama, such as “So why are you releasing these terrorists in the United States?” and “Why are you so confused about whether or not you want to in fact go after and prosecute people who've never historically been prosecuted before?” Plus, “Doesn't it worry you to have $9 trillion in debt being projected under your administration?”

In the interview conducted at Mount Vernon, Gingrich quipped: “If you didn't know better, you'd think that he was practicing with his own public affairs people for the future press conference.”

Audio: MP3 clip [1] which matches the video (58 secs)

From an interview excerpt run at the end of the Friday, May 1 On the Record with Greta Van Susteren [2]:

I think the Washington White House press corps has taken such a pathetic dive with this President that they ought to be part of his PR firm. I mean it's embarrassing to watch. How many reporters have said to him, you know, “so why are you releasing these terrorists in the United States?” How many reporters have said to him, you know, “why are you so confused about whether or not you want to in fact go after and prosecute people who've never historically been prosecuted before?” Why are so few of them saying to him: “Gosh, doesn't it worry you to have $9 trillion in debt being projected under your administration?”

I mean, there is no tough, serious engagement. It's like watching a collection of, you know -- if you didn't know better, you'd think that he was practicing with his own public affairs people for the future press conference. These look like practice sessions. They don't look like real press conferences.

That’s why you should never rely on the MSM for what is going on. Imagine life without the internet - I consider it a lifeline to the truth.

Speaker Gingrich is, of course, quite correct.

I would only add that this is an especially "high" dive, as it began over a year ago.

Most journalists didn’t go to journalism school to learn to report the truth. They studied journalism so that someday they could effect “change”.

Even the ratings too a dive.

This presser has some 28 million viewers, whereas the previous has 40 million.

Could be why they can’t sell their papers or advertising. Just maybe.

What will become the countervailing force to fight the extra-Constitutional activities of The One?

Anyone inquiring the courts about his birth records have been deemed as not “having standing”. The legal system has been neutralized on that issue.

Barry raised an unprecedented $700M or so in campaign funds which are now unaudited, and will never be audited. So the FEC has been neutralized and money continues to flow in, possibly from unlawful sources.

No one has offered any resistance to the firing of executives of private companies. No one acted (either for or against) this particular extra-Constitutional action.

None of the bondholders of Big Auto have launched a class-action suit against the theft of their investment. The risk-takers were robbed to benefit the unions. This is directly out of the Marxist tenets of “excess labor” defined not as profit to a company but as an exploitation of labor.

No one has pushed back on the government takeover of the banks (which is now related to the theft from the auto bondholders).

The checks and balances of our Constitution have completely failed us leading to one-party rule, Marxist theories put into practice, a banana-republic aura in Washington, and complete destruction of capitalism - all in 99 days!

If Barry is NOT following “Rules for Radicals” and Marxist principles, what would it look like if a new President openly announced a conversion to Marxism as soon as he lowered his hand following the oath of office?

Since all three branches are now neutralized, it would normally be up to the “fourth estate” to bring pressure to bear in a “normal” political environment”. The “fourth estate” has been co-opted, so it is up to the vilified, and now criminalized, grass-roots conservatives to act.

The question is, who will be the new leadership (or leadership team) of the movement?

Which is why I don't. They're worthless.

You can thank FOX for helping tank his ratings. They refused the “enchanted” presser.

LOL!!

I'm impressed. Somebody else on FR not only can spell "effect" correctly, but knows how to use it as a verb.

I honestly have more confidence in Pravada and Tass than I do the US media.

I don’t believe Pravada or Tass ever spewed as much propaganda as the US media.

We don’t really even have a two-party system — they have merged into elements of the same, with minor differences.

[What real differences existed between McCain and Obama? What real differences existed between Bush and Obama?]

Now, much of the MSM have jumped on the Obama bandwagon.

It has become one big column marching lock-step in the same direction.

“taken such a pathetic dive with this President that they ought to be part of his PR firm. I mean it's embarrassing to watch.”

The all time low was the reporter who wanted "knee pads" - presumable to "do" Clinton. That was bad - the Obamb stuff is still suck up pathetic... it'll probably get worse.

Until Newt and others in the ‘republican leadership’ have enough guts to make an incredibly bold, public stand and call this current administration for what it is, a group of anti-American communist-leaning subversives intent on ruining the country, then they will accomplish nothing. For Newt to make another church-mouse proclamation to all of us who already know all this, accomplishes nothing.
