Remember the term "Bush Derangement Syndrome," which perfectly captured the hateful invective directed at the former president? Many conservatives condemned BDS, as they should have. Like him or not, the president tried hard to serve and protect America; he did not deserve to be the target of cheap shots all day long by crazy left-wing loons.
But now the proverbial shoe is on the other foot and ODS (Obama Derangement Syndrome) is in play. The dictionary defines "derangement" as a form of insanity. After listening to some partisans evaluate Barack Obama's first 100 days in office, I have to say there is some madness in the air.
On my TV program the other night, I graded President Obama on his performance thus far. I gave him a "B" for domestic policy, largely because the stock market has stabilized and recession panic is receding a bit. I then awarded Obama a "C" in the foreign policy category because he has little to show for his public criticism of America. The Obama people will tell you that the president "planted a seed" while speaking overseas, but his spouting off about America's ills seemed weak to me.
Finally, I gave the president a "C-plus" for leadership. While his job approval poll ratings remain high, his waffling about the interrogation deal did not demonstrate a strong and forward-looking point of view to say the least.
Well, after that on-air report card, I received quite a few dissenting letters. One guy in Arizona said he was glad I wasn't teaching because I'd be the new Ward Churchill. A man in Denver said I had lost my mind because Obama deserved "F's" across the board. Still another guy opined that the president had accomplished nothing and that I should be ashamed.
So let me ask you, is ODS the same as BDS? I think it is.
Fairness is a hallmark of America. Our legal system, with its appeals process and litany of rights for the accused, is a great example of that. Greatness of any kind cannot be achieved without being fair. Tyrants may rule for a time, but they are never great.
Holding sincere opinions is also an honorable trait. There are fair-minded Americans who simply do not believe Obama's liberal view of the world is good for the country. Fine, no problem with that. But everything the man does is not awful, and to assign him sinister motives is blatantly unfair -- the same kind of inequity we saw heaped upon President Bush.
President Obama may turn out to be a disaster, or he may rise to greatness. At this point, nobody knows what will happen. That is the great thing about democracy and capitalism. When done right, those things give people a fair chance to succeed, and there's nothing deranged about it.
What next, Bill? Giving Charlie Manson gold stars for effort? Mussolini a “B” for keeping the trains on time? Stalin a “B+” opening Siberia? And of course, Hitler an “A+” for the Autobahn and the people’s car?
Bill, I might appreciate your efforts on things like protecting children, but there are other times when you are a complete fool...
And I guess I should address “BDS” vs. so called “ODS”.
“BDS” was/is based in the fantasies of those who had/have the disease.
So called “ODS” is based upon the words and philosophy of “Uh”bama and his cohorts, teachers and mentors, and associates.
That you refuse to see that, Bill, or that you do see but prefer to play with fire, only proves that you are indeed a fool...
I understand your point, and that is why we have an uphill battle against the drones, who:
-have been indoctrinated by counter-productive public school systems,
-receive info that is disseminated by propagandists of the Fifth Column,
-seek globalization over American Exceptionalism.
That does not mean we should give up the battle on any front. In fact, some states are passing legislation to prove citizenship in future elections. Keeping this issue alive is relevant.
When the S hits the F, and bread costs $11.00 a loaf, and there is no bread on the shelves, people may come back to their senses, and start to re-visit some of the issues they previously overlooked.
Personally I dont give a Hoot about Obama but his Policies and Contempt for the Country is what Bothers me .
This guy was given a Pass by the Main stream press the entire election and everyone is supposed to pretend that he was completly vetted and just except his very professionally constructed deception. He is dismanteling our Republic and the idiots in the PRESS just MARVEL at his intelligence instead of doing what they are supposed to do and be an ADVERSARIAL body as the Constitution envisioned them to be NOT CHEERLEADERS. Oreilly can call me all the Names he wants, but if you love TRADITIONAL AMERICA you will pray that this Userper fails in his attempt to turn the Country into a Bunch of Welfare Queens
Nope.
I think it is.
You call it thinking, I call your entire schtick populist bs.
Go play on the phone.
“Anyone who says that FR is a right wing hate group is not someone you want to be agreeing with.”
When BOR said half the people on this site are hate filled right wingers I cringed because I am absolutley certain that half the people on this site ARE NOT hate filled right wingers.
Now that is ROFLOL!! funny..!!!
Good one!!!
The guy is full of his own press.
“Just noticed that B.O. and B. O. have the same initials!”
Me and you and a dog named BO. Well, it almost works!
“When BOR said half the people on this site are hate filled right wingers I cringed because I am absolutley certain that half the people on this site ARE NOT hate filled right wingers.”
Brilliant!
I went to high school with O’Reilly, who was a determined tough little otherwise non-descript working class Irish kid.
He is usually intellectually honest, except when he tries too hard to be over-scrupulously middle of the road.
The endless leftist propaganda (from a MSM jealous of his hard earned success) that he is extreme right wing is a complete lie.
When was the anniversary of that massacre of Germans by US soldiers at Malmedy, eh Bill?
Even as demagogues go, he leaves a lot to be desired.
I like it! O’Reilly gives Obama to much credit!
But O’Reilly is always giving the benefit of the doubt Like Obama doesn’t know what going on in his Administration! I like O’Reilly but he sure gets me going! O’Reilly was convinced that Obama was going to govern from the middle during his administration. Anybody with half a brain tied behind their back knew he was going to govern from the left!
The useful indication here is that Obama has deceived “even the very elect” as we were warned might happen. The challenge now is to stay elect, and not deceived.
I hear you! This is going to be an excruciatingly long year and half and such a daunting task we have before us.
Watching Glenn Beck’s show yesterday gave me some hope tho. In case you didn’t see or hear it, he had people on who participated in tea parties. Lots of talk about getting back to the Constitution.
Thanks. I’m sure it flew over the heads of 98% of this threads readers... ;-].
