Michelle Obama has taken casual to a haute new level.
While volunteering Wednesday at a D.C. food bank, the First Lady sported her usual J.Crew cardigan, a pair of utilitarian capri pants and, on her feet, a sneaky splurge: trainers that go for $540.
That's right: These sneakers - suede, with grosgrain ribbon laces and metallic pink toe caps - are made by French design house Lanvin, one of fashion's hottest labels. They come in denim and satin versions, and have been a brisk seller all spring.
They're out of stock at posh Meatpacking District boutique Jeffrey, and Barneys New York boasts a limited selection of the sneaks, which are a cult favorite among fashionistas.

Other celebrity fans of Lanvin's costly kicks include Ellen DeGeneres and Kanye West, who has blogged about his faves.
As the family's primary dog walker, Michelle clearly requires comfortable footwear.
"I got up at 5:15 in the morning to walk my puppy," she joked Thursday. "That's how my day starts. Even though the kids are supposed to do a lot of the work, I'm still up at 5:15 a.m. taking my dog out."
She'll be trodding on New York's sidewalks Tuesday for the first time as First Lady. Michelle will meet with staff at the U.S. mission to the United Nations. Later, she headlines Time magazine's "100 most influential people" gala.

Silk purse / sow’s ear, yadda yadda ...
Definitely! That was “old” Queen Elizabeth, the late Queen Mother. The President Queen Elizabeth is also exemplary, of course; too bad the next generation are gnoofballs!
Lyrics to Ludacris' Obama rap song, "Obama Is Here":
"Hey... I'm back on it
like I just signed my record deal, yeah the best is here
The Bentley Coupe paint is drippin wet, it got sex appeal
Never shoulda hated, you never shoulda doubted him
With a slot in the President's iPod, Obama shouted him
Said I handled my biz and I'm one of his favorite rappers
Well give Luda a special pardon if I'm ever in the slammer
Better yet put me in office, make me a Vice President
Hillary hated on you so that bitch is irrelevant
Now Jesse talkin slick and apologizin for WHAT~?!
If you said it then you MEANT it how you want it, head or gut
And all you other politicians tryin to hate on my man
Watch us win majority vote in every STATE on my man
You cain't stop what's 'bout to happen, we 'bout to make history
The first black President it's destined and it's meant to be
The threats ain't fazin us, the nooses or the jokes
Get off your ass black people it's time to get out and vote
Paint the White House black and I'm sure that's got 'em terrified
McCain don't belong in ANY chair unless he's paralyzed
Yeah I said it cause Bush is mentally handicapped
Ball up all of his speeches and just throw 'em like candy wraps
Cause what you talkin I hear nothin even relevant
And you the worst of all 43 Presidents
Get out and vote, or the end'll be near
And the world is ready for change cause Obama is here
YEAHHH! Cause Obama is here
The world is ready for change cause Obama is here
Yeahhhh, cause Obama is here
Say world is ready for change cause Obama is here
Hey!

Somewhere, a sofa is missing its upholstery.
Mr. Haney needs the exercise, bless his heart, if he’s going to horticulture through a D.C. summer.
You would have a pic like that! LMAO!!!
where'd they dig those lesbians up too.
I agree with your main points, but I don't think most Freepers are envious; I think we're more upset with the hypocrisy of the Obamas...bashing anyone who's earned wealth in this country--telling us all the time about how we should be sacrificing, paying more in taxes, where we should work and live, etc. -- all while pulling stints like this. These shoes epitomize the liberal, "do as I say, not as I do" mentality.
Nope, that’s her back porch.
That’s why she has to wear her belt up close to her boobs.
>>>ewe gross..does it ever shaves its legs...<<<
No, but it sheds a lot.
We're all going to have to tighten our belts and sacrifice.
Now get back to work. Washington needs your money. We've got a new $600 dollar business expense to pay off.
>Holy crap, is she wearing a bustle
>or is that just a bunch of junk in the trunk?

No, no, no. You don't understand. We're being asked to sacrifice - not the Obomas.
This is what I'm talking about.
It's not for you to tell me what I should get upset about. That's not a conservative thing to do. That's a busy-body thing to do. Busy-bodiness has always been the realm of the left.
Don't you worry about what's in my wallet. If Michelle Obama wants to spend her money on expensive (but granted ugly) shoes, I don't care. I buy what I want and usually bash people over the head if they come up and tell me not to.
That's how freedom works. I do what I want with my money and you do what you want with yourn.
A free minded person doesn't care what shoes his fellow American is running around in. But much has changed in the US since I left. And it aint pretty. And it aint just the dems/left who have changed.
Is that leg hair I see in that photo? Yeesh!
I know she didn’t pay for them with her OWN money, but those ugly-assed shoes are about $525 overpriced.
All politicians are liars and criminals. All of 'em. Republicans. Democrats. (and whatever other names they come by)
It goes with the territory. People who seek to gain power over others by ascending to offices of power are inherently untrustworthy in my book. I don't care if they have an R after their names or a D. They're all crooks and you can't trust any of them.
I don't care about Michelle Obama's shoes.
I realise this kind of makes me evil incarnate here but I'm pretty much immune to group pressure. I don't care what you guys think about me. I call it like I see it. If this were one of Bush's daughters wearing an expensive item and the liberal media were slagging them off for it, people here would be defending the expensive item because then the partisan nature of the argument would be reversed. That's the truth and everybody here knows it.
It's silly.
